Joan Rutherford Otway passed away peacefully July 8th in Auckland New Zealand, where she enjoyed many happy times, in the latter part of her 96 years. Born 17th November 1926 in Clitheroe, England, she spent her formative years in the hardnosed European textiles market. This certainly gave her an edge that she never lost. She put this energy into establishing the first beauty therapy school in NZ, a health farm, and a stud deer farm. She now joins those she loved, John Derek Hodgson, their daughter Julia Webb and latterly Whitley Otway. A quiet achiever, she had a love for friends and family, genuinely helping people, always seeing the best in them. She held a special place in her heart for Labradors, fish and chips, the good Lord, Waiheke Island and Trearddur Bay. Joan is survived and will be missed by her sons Russell Hodgson, Chris Otway, her grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
