I grew up with Mac in Orakei (also born in 1939) and particularly playing rugby and shared a sailing upbringing though not aboard Ranger. We lived different lives but I always had a great respect for him and had the pleasure of catching up wirh him a very few years ago in our old age.He was a great character in my life.Bon Voyage Mac.
Mac I will always remember the times sailing against you and Max on Gunner and treasure the many stories told as part of the post-race analysis. Rest in peace and may you always have fair winds and clam seas, so the whiskey and milk stays in the glass until it is drunk. Ross Masters Past Commodore Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron
I will treasure the closeness of our two ‘Madison Pl’ families. The Sunday night drinks at Mac & Judy’s place - from the stage in our lives where we would play multi- family games while the parents had a couple, to the stage where we were old enough to join them. Sunday nights were about munching on Dad’s roasted peanuts & chatting away about everything under the sun. It was a privilege to be able to share so much of my life with Mac - & will continue to be a privilege to continue to share my life with Judy, Monique & Margaret. Much love Anne & Michelle
Thanks Mac for making great humans. X
Mac, it was with deep sadness that Liz & I learned of your passing last week. We will forever cherish the memories of spending years with you, Jude and your family at the Bach with Emma & James. You welcomed our family with open arms and filled us with endless stories of sailing and fishing which we still recall today. We shared the great times together and endured the tough times together as well. You were a true legend and we know you are now at peace with Paul at your side. Rest in love Mac Mark, Liz, Emma & James
When we emigrated to NZ in 1981 we were lucky to move into a house next door to mac and Judy who made us feel so very welcome in NZ and their home. We loved the Sunday evenings in their bar and to listen to Mac telling stories. We remember many happy times there, also a visit to their bach which our two girls especially loved. In recent years we kept in touch through Facebook, enjoying seeing their family grow and also the many jokes Mac posted ! We will miss “Uncle Mac”, as our girls knew him, a good and kind friend , and our thoughts are with Judy and Monique and their family.
Mac , thank you for your kindness and generosity. I have so many happy memories of spending time with you ,, Jude , Mon, Ma . Paul , Nik , Josh and Bella both at home and at the Bach .
