John Yelash

3 July 193528 July 2023

Born July 03, 1935. Passed away on July 28, 2023. After a long life of adventure, art, philosophy and prodigious humanity, John's big heart has stopped. A kind and faithful friend to many, John was accepting of all and impactful in countless lives. A maelstrom and a mountain all in one very large person. Loud and compassionate. Powerful and tender. Dangerous and protective. Last surviving child of the late Frank and Christina Yelash. Beloved brother of the late Mary, Jimmy and Christina. Proud father of Nicola, Jak, Georgina and Frank. Forever-cherished grandad of Luka, Niko and Timo and treasured uncle of Michele, Justin, Michael and Nicholas. Grateful and adored companion to Pamela, and much-loved friend of Anne. John's passing leaves a deafening silence and a glaring void. We will be celebrating John's life on Saturday 5 August, 10.30am at Davis Funerals, 150 Central Park Drive, Henderson.

Funeral service held at Central Park Chapel, Davis Funerals

Tributes

The Five Elements of Yelash Some people look and see an enormous rock, The strong, hard centre of a fluid world. But rocks are cold and gather dirt. Yet your big, warm torso shrugs it off. Some people look and see a flowery island In an ocean of blue and ordinary. But an island wears a cloak of water Yet water blows off your restless skin. Some people look and see a blustery gale. Loud, boisterous and full of energy. But wind goes around a mountain, Yet you can knock it down. Some people look and see a ball of flames For the frigid world to warm its heart by. But flames can be kept at a distance, Yet your presence is inescapable. Too few people know to close their eyes and ears, Loose their limbs and fall towards you, A warm embracing sick-bed In a room of unjudging hilarity. Dad was the last surviving child of the late Frank and Christina Yelash and brother of the late Mary, Jimmy and Christina. Loved father-in-law to my wife, Nicola and forever-cherished grandad to my kids Luka, Niko and Timo. My best mate. Hooray, Dad, I’ll find you by the old tote behind the grandstand.
