Tributes

Leanne and I have been friends since before primary school as we both lived in Wairiki Road. I have many fond memories of time spent in their family home - always extended family coming and going, dogs, fresh garden produce and much love and laughter ! Thelma and Harry always made me feel welcome - the more the merrier - and then in turn my own family called them Poppa Harry and Nana Thelma. Time to finally put your feet up Nana Thelma and rest in peace. With much love and respect from “Susan-up-the-road” and family x

Aunty Thelma was my mother’s younger sister. When I was born there’s a photo of a young Thelma aged 19. The photo captures Thelma waiting excitedly and anxiously for my mother to give birth to me. Thelma was excited at the prospect of being an Aunt, for the first time, and we bonded from the day I was born and for that I’m eternally grateful for having a second mother and to have felt the warmth of her love. Aunty Thelma was gifted with humility, patience, courage, fortitude and love for her friends and family, the late Harry Rhodes, and her three amazing daughters, Karen, Leanne & Susan who, I know, made Thelma quietly proud, as only a mother knows, and cherishes. Aunty Thelma introduced two of my daughters Victoria & Gala to Girl Guides. Vale Aunty Thelma, RIP Wayne Madden
