One of the good ones, I love hearing stories of your generosity and unwavering love from your children and grandchildren. You were such and influential presence and gave out so much love. Sending all my love to family and friends, it’s never easy when we loose such a special human xx
As close friends of Peter’s daughter, Frannie, we had the great pleasure of enjoying Peter’s hospitality in 2020 on a NZ holiday. He welcomed us into his home with beautiful meals of fresh seafood and cheeky entertaining stories always delivered with a twinkle in his eye. We’ll remember him dearly as a wonderful father to Frannie and her family. Sending our love to everyone who was blessed to know and love him. Wayne Talbot Ross Booker
I first met Peter when he was a cheerful and fun loving apprentice at Cambrian Engineering. I was in the Store during the school holidays. Apart from a few years gaining experience, Peter spent his whole working life at "Cambrian". He was a key member of the staff, both for his technical skills and his social and management ability. He will be missed.
Pete was a true gentleman extremely kind and generous. We met in 1974, I had just emigrated to NZ, the first friend I made was Frannie. I spent time at Frankly Rd, he would encourage Fran and I to pick blackberries and then make a delicious pie. I also visited Pete in Waitara a few years ago, we had a fabulous time going to the RSL for dinner and having a few pints, he was so proud to introduce Frannie and myself to all his mates. He loved cooking great seafood for us, and enjoying his port. He will be missed by everyone who knew him, the reunion with Sandy and Steve will be a joyous time for the three of them. Much love to Hallewells. Gail Williams
Peter was a long serving and highly respected employee of Cambrian Engineering. He brought skill and intelligence to his many roles from the shop floor to Manufacturing Manager.
We were shocked and saddened by Pete’s passing. He was always positive, and always happy to see you. On our trips back to NZ we would pop in for a cup of tea and some great laughs. Such a good tradesman, making inlay trinket boxes for our daughters. Sadly the trips got less and less over the later years. Now Father and Son can ride together in the skies – Squid doing donuts on his Darmah or red lining Kermit the Laverda and Pete riding his Cagivia. Sad and happy times. Our hearts go out to all. Such a fine fine man. All our love, Jeffrey family Kevin Julie Marissa and Dayna.
Pete The news of your passing took me breath away, and immediately filled my ears with tears of loss. Tears for the sorrow your passing will bring to all that love you, tears for missed opportunities to see you again. As a wayward lad, friends of your eldest son, I was in awe of you from the day I first met you and you shook my hand welcoming me to your home and admonishing me to leave your beer alone. The beers we subsequently shared, and the knowledge that I could call in and “share a drink” without Steve, was a most humbling experience. I felt love, appreciation and encouragement in varying degrees as you thought necessary. I learnt so much from you about work ethics, character and humanity. I learned the benefits of reasoned discussion tempered with acceptance of others point of view. In short, Pete, I learnt from you, my best mates Dad, that that has stood me in good stead all my days. I conversed with you in ways I couldn’t with my own father until I was well into my 50’s. The most amazing thing about all of the above Pete is, you didn’t go out of your way to do all of that, you were just being you and I was one of the many sponges that children are, and soaked it up. Thank you for being you. I know you’re wherever Steve & Sandi are. Much love to all the Hallewells.
Pete you were one in a million a good bloke that had time for anyone and always willing to share your skills you will be sadly missed Sherryl & Ivan
