7 February 1975 – 5 August 2023
Bex passed away peacefully on 5th August 2023 at Nelson Hospice, surrounded by her loving family. She continued to shine her bright spirit, humour, positivity, and joy throughout her illness.
Very much loved wife of Jamie, adored Mummy of Willow, treasured daughter of Sally and Patrick. Bex was a beloved sister, aunt, cousin, daughter-in-law and friend.
A Celebration of Bex’s life will be held on 27th August. Details will be provided once confirmed.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in Bex’s memory can be made to the Nelson Tasman Hospice Trust, NBS Bank, Account no. 03-1354-0532930-00
Bex was the brightest, kindest person you could hope to meet. I feel so blessed we met through the folk music scene in Nelson, and so appreciated her support in our journey to becoming parents. I will miss you lots.
We welcome you all to attend Bex Thirkettle’s life ceremony on Sunday the 27th of August. If the weather is fine the venue will be Gardens of the World at the southern end of Paton Road, Hope. If the weather forecast looks like rain a few days out, an alternative indoor venue will be used. It will either be Hope Hall or the Nelson Girls College Hall. We will advise via facebook, email, or text. Feel free to pass the invitation on to anyone who knew Bex. There are no limits on numbers, and families are welcome. No RSVP is required. The ceremony will start at 12 pm, but we recommend turning up between 11:00 and 11:30. The Gardens of the World venue is a grassed amphitheatre so we recommend bringing a chair as only a limited number of chairs will be provided for people travelling from outside the region. Parking within Gardens of the World is limited, but there is general roadside berm parking on adjacent roads. There will be a Nelson Tasman Hospice donation box at the venue if you would like to give a cash donation in memory of Bex. Alternatively, online banking is available. The general run of events will be the speeches and ceremony from 12:00-13:30, then a 30-minute picnic break, then live music from Anna and friends, then finishing with drumming from Hazel and Kim’s groups. You are welcome to stay as long or as short as you like and the above times are flexible. There will also be limited time available for people if they want to say a few words about Bex. Feel free to bring bubble wands to use as these will be incorporated into the final ceremony. There will be a box for people to put written memories of Bex into, and these memories will be combined into a book for Willow to read in the future. Feel free to bring food and drink for the picnic as there will be no provided catering. We look forward to seeing you all there.
To Jamie and Family Our thoughts are with you at this very sad time. Regards Alex, Jackie, Darrin, Ephraim & Staff
Meeting you back in November and hearing your beautiful journey really gave me so much hope about my own. Your bubbly personality and positivity really has helped me in so many ways. I wish I knew you longer Bex but I know I’ll always be thinking of you along my journey you precious lady x
To beautiful Bex. You were an amazing person so funny positive and could make me smile at any time. I will never forget our weekly catch ups we had. When I was so lucky to have you as support. I know your smile will be missed. Thinking of all your friends and family at this time 😘🥰🥰
Beks was the best friend. I remember her skipping down the corridor at Gateway. She was always smiling. She would pick me and my hot scones up in her van and take me to Gateway. We'd go out for lunch. Goodbye Bexs, I will never forget you.
