Dr. Benita Ameratunga passed away peacefully on 18 August 2023 at Auckland City Hospital, aged 93, surrounded by the love of her family. Dearly beloved mother and mother-in-law of Rohan and Shanthi, Maya, Demi and Neil, Sriani and Thomas. Cherished grandmother and grandmother-in-law of Anouska and Joe, Kyle, Stefan, Chrishan, Ashani, and Mikela, and proud great-grandmother of Aamara. Loving wife of the late Dr. Bertie Ameratunga. Precious only daughter of the late Omeon and Harriet Mendis, and adored sister of Lucius and Eustace Mendis and the late Neil and Tyrell Mendis. Loved and missed by many more. We will celebrate her life at a Buddhist funeral ceremony and burial, to be held at Purewa Cemetery on Saturday 26 August at 12 noon. The service will be livestreamed on this page.
