I'm I believe to be nanas 15th Grandchild. When I think back to my childhood, growing up, Nana played a very key part. Anytime we stayed at Nanas, We' d wake up in the mornings. And sit in nanas bed and have Weetbix bites with peaches on them. And then you set out on the greatest quest known to man. It wasn't for the weak and it most certainly wasn't for timid. I'm talking about a journey where you question wether you might make it out alive. These were commonly known as bear hunts. Now these were walks that probably were only been maybe 25mins around Paremuka Lake in Ranui where Nana lived. But she made it so exciting that you felt like this was hours of adventures. She would always wait till everyone seemed relaxed. Maybe too relaxed for her liking. Then she'd scream "I saw a bear, I saw a bear" and everyone would have sticks and pull them up were definitely prepared to fight. And then she'd go "oh never mind was just a tree" Eventually you made your way back to nanas where youd wait outback on the patio and she'd open her kitchen window and serve you ice-cream like an icecream truck. Year's passed and I'd go see Nana every few weekends and have lunch and a coffee. Talk about my rugby score how schools been going. And more recently going over on a Sunday after a big Saturday night and not quite making it to the inside of the house but rather to the garden out front. One of the things I think I'm gonna hold onto forever is Christmas Eve Mass. We'd go with Nana to the children's mass at St Paul's Church. Although... Nana never seemed to fond of Caleb and I's opera singing during the hymns. In our defence. It's the best way to sing How great Thou art Nana to this day is still one of the strongest people I know. Even during the toughest parts of her life. She'd smile and act like she's better than fine and I believe that pushed her to achieve some remarkable things. Not many people get put into a retirement home and then move back to there original house
