CARRUTHERS, Catherine (nee McColvin); It is with heavy hearts that we confirm the loss of our beautiful Mum, the much-loved, diminutive Scots-Kiwi powerhouse familiar to all who knew her simply as Cathie. On Wednesday, 30th August at Summerset in the Sun, Nelson following her customary salted porridge breakfast. Aged 97 years. Dearly loved wife of the late Andrew Carruthers, loved mother and mother-in-law of Cathie and Gavin Hill, Andy Carruthers (Nelson) Peter Carruthers (Brisbane) Gabrielle Carruthers (Auckland) and Karen Hughes (Brisbane). Loved Nana of her 8 grandchildren, Nan-Nan of her 10 great grand children and 10 great great grand children (so far).
She will be fondly remembered by the charities she served as a volunteer (in what we ironically call ‘her retirement’), and for her generosity of spirit and love of life.
“We miss you terribly but we’ll remember you always”
A service to celebrate her life will be held at Shone and Shirley, 164 Tahunanui Drive Nelson, at 11am on Thursday 7th September.

My "evil" Scottish Granny She was a Scottish lassie, born and bred With a twinkle in her eye and a joke on her lips She loved to laugh and make others smile With her witty remarks and her cheeky quips She was a caring soul, who always helped Her family, her friends, and even strangers She had a heart of gold and a generous spirit She was always there to lend a hand or share her dangers She was a fun-loving lady, who enjoyed life She traveled the world and had many adventures She never let age or illness stop her She was always ready to try new things and venture She was an evil granny, but in a good way She liked to tease and prank and play She never took herself too seriously She always had a good word to say She was a remarkable woman, who touched many lives She left behind a legacy of love and joy She will be missed by all who knew her She was our granny, our friend, our ally
My NanNan❤️❤️ The most beautiful of ladies, with a million stories to share Oh so wise and quite witty, you’d be her listening ear She’d have you in tears of laughter with the stories that she spoke But also had a heart of gold and so caring about any folk Always after that great big cuddle could never leave with out one Time always flew by with nannan, her company was just so much fun And at 97 you leave us, no more stories no more hugs But I’ll never forget our memories and forever cherish those snuggs.🥰🥰 Cathriona Carmody
A huge loss to all that the opportunity to have nana part of their life’s. A beautiful soul with a heart to match, strong and resilient to say the least. Time to rest and spend time with granddad X
To our dearest Cathie, who was loved by so many, including myself. She used to say "Oh well, you can't have everything, good looks, intelligence & money" & we would have a good laugh. Wonderful sense of humor. Missed with love Elizabeth ❤️
