I knew Wally before he emigrated to New Zealand and when I was very young. I remember he had a small black car - probably an Austin. He took us on a day out visiting train yards in London. This was when you could go into the yards and spot the steam engines. Wally had a trick of steering the car with his belly while rolling his cigarette. I hope he gave up this practice! I last met him and Auntie Pam when they last visited the UK. We had a good time together. We took them to visit a giant Marks & Spencer store. Wally was very focussed when he was interested in something. We lost him in the store even though he was using a walker. Pam was not concerned - I think this was normal behaviour for Wally. On this visit Wally was always smiling and I could see he was a very happy and contented chap. I hope this was a true picture of him. So sorry that we are unable to attend the funeral in person but plan to view online. I guess it will be a sad occasion but hope it will also be full of good memories for the family and friends.
