Jennifer Mary Bunyan

Also known as "Jenny"

10 September 19399 September 2023

BUNYAN, Jenny: Passed away peacefully after a long struggle on Saturday September 9, 2023, one day before her 84th Birthday.

Loved wife of the late George, loved mum of Paula and Paul Peacock, Graham and Patti, loved Gran of Tiffany.

Messages can be sent to 107 The Ridgeway, Stoke, Nelson 7011. A private celebration for Jenny was held on her Birthday and a memorial service will be held at a later date to be advised.

Mums adventurous spirit brought her to NZ in 1963, where she met George.  She was born in Peru during an interesting time in history. She travelled vastly over her life.  She took us on many family holidays and adventures, which we will always have great memories of and remember fondly.

Mum was truly dedicated to her Nursing profession, she cared and supported so many people over her 52-year career, retiring in her early 70’s.  So, many of her community knew her from Nelson Hospital and the Stoke Medical Centre.

Mum loved children, especially Tiffany.  She was a ‘Story Gran’ at Nayland Kindergarten and a ‘Reader/Writer’ at Nayland College for many years.

She loved her family and friends and always wanted to keep them close.

A little lady, with a fierce independence, amazing bravery, strength, resilience and sometimes stubbornness.

We will miss her cheery, fun, kind, and loving spirit.

Now Dad is waiting for his cup of tea, and all those cats need feeding.

You will always be with us.

Tributes

Jenny was my very special friend in the UK from the age of 12, through our teens and into our early twenties. During that time we had fun and laughed our way through many adventures. She was so alive, so humorous, so determined to get the best out of life. She was so well suited to nursing, being so caring. No wonder she was snapped up by NZ when she applied to emigrate. How brave she was to travel alone on the boat to the other side of the world. When she met and married George they built a loving family, our friendship remained strong. She always made sure to arrange a meet with me whenever they came over to visit relatives in the UK. Jenny, the warmest, funniest, most loyal friend anyone could have, your friendship meant so much. You'll remain in my heart forever. Joan (known to Jenny as Bondy)

Jen was certainly a unique lady and a very special friend along with George of course. Your whole family have always occupied a special place in my heart. When Noel and I first met George back in 1962, who would believe where that friendship would lead. Could write a book about all the amazing times shared with all of you. Can still remember coming over and Mum doing star jumps on the drive when we drew up always so welcoming. She had a heart of gold. Joan xx

Jenny was a caring, genuine, fun loving and amazing human being.. Not only as an amazing nurse but also an amazing wife, mum and nan. She met her soul mate in uncle George and it was a privilege to stay with them both in 1991 and 1993. I know she will be so sadly missed but I am happy to think she is now reunited with the man she loved so much. I am so pleased I knew her and spent a little bit of time with her. Love to all the family.

What a great adventurous life Jenny lived. Jenny was always up for a chat, a laugh and any activity (exclude cooking). In her late 70s she would be outside jumping on the trampoline with Tiffany. Jenny could be heard laughing so loud that everyone was running outside because we thought she must of done a triple somersault. But no she was enjoying her time with Tiffany. I remember a time in London when Jenny was once again heard laughing very loudly and it was while she was having a massage. She did not tell us prior that she was super ticklish. It was always wonderful to see both Jenny and George dance together. Both enjoying the music. Reading children’s books was one of Jenny’s favourite activities. They were very animated and you felt like you were in the story. So many great memories in a life well lived. Rest in peace dear lady.
