Uncle Des was intelligent, kind, an excellent family man and, very important this, he had a great sense of humour and a ready laugh. My memory of him goes back a long time, not quite to his marriage to auntie Lorna though I was there as a three-year old. I have many, many recollections and, important this too, all are good. He was there, with his kind presence and ready humour, at the family gatherings on Christmas Day afternoons, numerous family anniversaries, the get togethers at 30 Hill Road Manurewa most Sundays for many years, two-week summer holidays sharing a bach at the beach with my family, and at those performances of the Prospect Players, Glen Eden. Yes, very fond memories to reflect on. He will, I am certain, be missed by a lot of good people. Knowing this, rest in peace Uncle Des. Denis (and Jennie) Minton.
