I am very sorry I did not know in time to attend the service, but I look forward to watching online. I would like to give my condolences to Karen and the family. I was extremely fortunate to work in the same office as John at Dodd Paterson Architects, when I was a graduate architect with just two years experience working overseas. I worked at ADP for three years and during that time I learned many aspects of architectural practice from John. I would hear his work telephone conversations as I sat draughting at my drawing board, he would check and correct my drawings, and he also took me to site meetings to learn how that part of the process worked. Some years later he also recommended me as an examiner for architects registration exams, and I enjoyed that role. This was at a time when there were few women architects and support for women was not universal. I am now retiring after almost 49 years in practice, 40 of those years running my own practice. Others at ADP (Roger Langley, George Paterson, Brian Dodd and Roly Adams) were also very generous with their time, teaching me the many things one needs to know as an architect in practice, and I am very grateful to all of them, but having worked in the same office as John, because he was so forthcoming about teaching me, I feel that I learned the most from him. Thank you John.
We only met occasionally but always enjoyed your company immensely, our deepest condolences to Karen and family
Feeling sad we couldn't be there with Bryan to farewell John but left for Brisbane this morning. He has been in our thoughts particularly last week when we were down at Waiheke where our memories were.
One of the few truly genuine and nice people we meet in life. Was a honour and a pleasure John.
A wonderful man, who lived a wonderful life of adventure, surrounded by a loving family ❤️ Rest in peace legend
Fond memories of times spent together. John, your love of family, a good red wine and the natural world around you will never be forgotten. You possessed a wide range of skills that will be inspirational to your Grandies. Your work is done now, time to rest.
The best “uber” driver there ever was! Thank you for driving us to school every day, helping me with my maths whilst driving in (it must have been so frustrating!) and running down the hill to our house when mum n dad were out and we got scared. Our dog trial weekends - such fantastic childhood memories. Your kind laugh and beaming smile, we will miss. Rest up John, I’m sure you’ll have wagging tail around you! X
Oh Johnny. Who gave you an early leave pass. We all had so many more things to have shared together. We will miss you always - your sense of humour and your love of life. Rest easy now Johnny.
