On Thursday 16th July 2026, John passed away peacefully in Hastings, Hawkes Bay.
Husband to Pat (RIP 2012).
Much loved Father and Father-in-law of Margaret and Ray, Ian, David and Sara.
Treasured Grandad of Esmee, Joshua, Grace and Hannah.
He was a man of quiet strength, a larger-than-life presence with the gentlest of hearts.
His love was steadfast, his wit and humor renowned, and his kindness left its mark on everyone fortunate enough to have known him.
A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held at the Warkworth Anglican Christ Church, 39 Percy Street, Warkworth on Monday 3rd August at 1.30pm.

While Rev John & I were neighbours at Summerset Falls for only a short time, I will always remember him with respect & gratitude, that, despite his failing health, he welcomed me to the Village with great warmth & kindness. I missed him (and his devoted son Ian) so much when he was moved to another Village outside of Auckland. Matthew Ch 25, vs 23: Well done, good and faithful servant! Vi Watson
