Benjamin Matthew Douglas Schmidt

7 June 200326 June 2026

It is with deep sorrow that we share the devastating news that our beloved son, Ben, passed away peacefully after a year long battle with a brain tumor.

Ben was deeply loved and will be forever missed by Blair, Hana and Matu, his unicorn Sunè, his best four legged friend Bear, his whānau and family, his friends, and everyone whose lives he touched.

Ben was a loving, generous young man.  He inspired us daily with his brilliance and creativity and made us laugh with his crazy sense of humor.

He faced the past 12 months with incredible courage, dignity and faith. Through adversity, as a testament to his beautiful soul, he continued to pour out love and compassion on all of us.

Our hearts ache with longing for him but we take comfort in knowing that he is finally at peace, and able to rest.

We are grateful for the love, prayers and support that so many have shown throughout Ben’s journey.

A service to celebrate Ben’s life will be held at Raumati Beach Church on Tuesday 30 June at 11am.

Moe mai rā i te poho o te Ariki. We love you to the moon and back.

For Ben’s Family and Whanau - You may not see his smiling face each day Nor his laugh nearby or faraway But as you travel on thru life He lives on in every kind hello And thru sunbright days and stormy seas Your love for him will never depart For he has left his hand upon your heart.
