In Loving Memory of Helen Patricia James
27 December 1959 – 21 June 2026
Today we remember and celebrate the life of Helen Patricia James, a beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, family member, and friend.
Born on 27 December 1959 to Maureen and Alan Hodges, Helen lived a life centred on family and those she loved most. She was a devoted mother to Matthew and Jacqui, Mark and Rebecca, and Rebecca and Taylor, who were her pride and joy.
Helen was also a cherished grandmother to Kayden, Arna, Adelaide, Corey, Leah, and Cian. Her grandchildren brought immense happiness to her life, and she treasured every moment spent with them. The love, laughter, and memories they shared will remain in their hearts forever.
Helen’s passing leaves an immeasurable void in the lives of all who knew and loved her. Her kindness, strength, and caring nature touched many people and will never be forgotten.
While we grieve her loss, we also celebrate the love she gave, the memories she created, and the legacy she leaves behind through her family. May those memories bring comfort and peace in the days ahead.
Rest peacefully, Helen. You will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remember.
A service to celebrate Helen's life will be held in the Harbour City Funeral Home Chapel, corner Ward Street and Fergusson Drive, Upper Hutt on Friday, 26 June 2026 at 11:00am followed by private cremation.

Mum, I will miss you so much. Thank you for being there for every journey of my life. You taught me how to care, how to love, and how to give even when you have nothing. You were the best mum to me, you always had me, any day, any time. You were a real fighter and your strength is so admirable. Please watch over me as I try to navigate my next journey of life without you. I miss you terribly. I love you to the stars and back 💜
Helen, you where one of a kind. Strong, caring and pushed through all your life obstacles while raising one of my childhood best friends and taking life as it came. Breaks my heart that after all life threw at you that it decided to throw you more but your soul stayed pure and you where and will be in this and the next a incredible woman ♥️
Helen, it was amazing to have you as a neighbor. Always ready for a chat over the fence as I was cooking dinner on the barbie! Hearing about all your family and your obvious love for your kids and grandchildren. I told you my own mum was unwell and even as your own health was in question your first thoughts were always of my family and others around you. Rest in peace.
Rest in peace, dear Midge. Thank you for your friendship and the wonderful memories we created together. You will be greatly missed.
