Condolences to family and friends. Allan is one of the nicest and warmest people we have ever met. Always quick to laugh and quicker with a kind word. His kindness and generosity have left a lasting impression on us. We will miss catching up with him. Our thoughts are with Gloria and the family during this difficult time. Mark and Aaron
Dear Aunty Gloria, Gareth, Nat and family, I was so saddened to hear about Uncle Allan's passing. He was one of those genuinely good people—kind, down-to-earth, and always up for a chat and a laugh. He had a way of making everyone feel welcome. One of my favourite memories is Uncle Allan coaching me in basketball. You could see how much he loved the game, and that passion rubbed off on everyone around him. I also remember how often we'd unexpectedly bump into him and Aunty Gloria at airports, or even end up on the same flight. It's funny how those little moments become the memories you treasure most. He'll be remembered by so many people whose lives he touched, and he'll be greatly missed. Thinking of you all and sending my love during this incredibly difficult time. Rest in peace, Uncle Allan. xo
Dearest Aunty Gloria, Nat and Gareth, (and whanau) I was so deeply saddened to hear of Uncle Alan's passing this week. Loss has a way of stopping us in our tracks. It reminds us how precious this brief time together really is, and although the ache softens with time, those we love continue to travel beside us in different ways. I found myself smiling as memories of Alan kept arriving. I remembered his warmth, his easy optimism, his gentle sense of humour, and the genuine curiosity he always brought to a conversation. He was generous with his time, and I always came away feeling seen and welcomed. I've treasured our family gatherings over the years, and more recently those wonderfully ordinary chocolate fish brunches with Mum, Dad, and the local uncles and aunties whenever I was back in Wellington. It always seemed they ordered exactly the same thing. 😉 Those simple rituals somehow become the memories we hold onto most. Alan had that rare gift of leaving people a little lighter than he found them. His gentle humour, warmth, and genuine interest in others are the things I'll carry with me. Sending you all so much love as you navigate these difficult days. I hope, in time, the sadness slowly gives way to gratitude for having shared so many years, stories, and laughter with such a special man. With love, Jason Moon

We were so sorry to hear of Allan’s passing. Though we only seemed to meet in the Kensington Lobby when you were both going somewhere or Allan off to golf, I first met you both, at least 50 years ago, when I bought a pair of light blue linen shorts from your shop in Upper Hutt before you shifted to Johnsonville Mall. As you worked together all those many years and then retired together I know it will be a real loss Gloria. Our thought are with you.
To Gloria and Family, my thoughts are with you all at the sad lost of Allan. He always had a lovely smile on face when I went into Gloria’s. Many happy memories.
To the Ngan and Rogers family, our deepest condolences. We will always remember Allan’s warmth and friendly smile in our unusually frequent summer encounters at Sul Bing, Glenferrie road. His fond memory will remain with us. Caroline, Chris, Ollie and Josh Melbourne, Australia
Seeing Alan's death notice in the paper yesterday evokes many memories of our time at Hutt Central School. Alan was in my class for several years and was always my partner in the folk dancing times. He was a lovely person and a great friend. I travelled to Johmsonville several times to have a coffee with him when the Gloria's store was there. So sad to read of his passing and my sincere sympathy to all of his family.
Dear Gloria I was so sad to hear of Allan's passing. I have lovely memories of him as a warm, caring man who I could see had a deep love for his family. My thoughts are with you, Natalie and Gareth and their families. Sending lots of love. Take care Christine Newton
To dear Gloria and family, We are so, so sorry to hear of Allan's passing. We remember him from way back during family gatherings ... we are sorry to not have been more in touch. Though your eyes are sadden with tears now, we hope that there is a day, where you smile just remembering him being part of your lives and he will surely continue being part of your lives in the memories of him, and the love you have for him in your hearts. Take care, and look after yourselves. with much love Sylvia, Maria & Shirley
Gloria and family, we were deeply saddened when we heard of Allan's passing. He was a good friend and we always enjoyed our get togethers when we were in Wellington. Our daughter, Jennifer, remembers Allan telling her, when she was about 15 years old, to always aim high. She has never forgotten that advice and who gave it to her. We send our deepest condolences. RIP Allan. Alison and James Toronto, Canada
Much loved brother-in-law to Barbara and Allan, and a treasured Uncle to Brent, Michelle and their families. He leaves us with many entertaining memories of family, sports (especially Hurricanes), endless support and the Lickety Splits song. He will be dearly missed and always loved.
Our condolences to the family, it may have been many years since we had the pleasure of sharing Saturday sidelines with you, and our trips away. We will never forget how green Alan turned on the ferry, before we left the wharf in Wellington, and how he flew home while we all enjoyed the return ferry home.
