We first met Warren in 1973 in Sydney Australia. Warren was 25, I was 23 and Alf was 25 as well. We were Canadians on a working holiday. Alf got a job at The Sydney Morning Herald. This is where, Alf met Warren. The two of them hit it off right away and a friendship started. Warren became our longest and most treasured friend. Warren was a lot of fun and he was such a nice guy. One of the funniest remarks I remember him saying was, he called Alf “A slack mole”. This was said in jest and sounded all the more funny having come from someone with such a lovely New Zealand accent. Speaking of Warren’s voice, he had a melodious one. One morning in “The Hat Box” he sang his heart out singing the lyrics “When I’m calling you” from the song “Indian Love Call”, a musical set in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. “The Hat Box” was what Warren called our tiny rented one room flat in North Bondi. Warren met a nice Aussie girl, Pam Dicker. The two of them were invaluable in the setup and perfect execution of our wedding in North Bondi. In fact Warren and the whole Dicker family were all instrumental in making our day extra special. Warren did me the honour of walking me down the aisle. He said he was nervous but he handled it masterfully. Warren loved adventure. He travelled to the northern hemisphere to visit us in Toronto, Canada. While in Canada he cycled through forested parks to be amazed by the autumn tree colours. On his travels he bravely did some Hang Gliding, boarded a Catamaran for a wild adventure as a crew member, then flew to Europe. Warren was a Gem of a Guy. We will always remember his gentle nature and the warm wonderful friendship he freely shared. We give our heartfelt condolences. Thank you for the beautiful memories.
