Tributes

What a wonderful man, that I’m so pleased I got to meet and visit with regularly over the past couple of years. He was so sharp and witty and I so enjoyed our conversations. Rest in peace Mike, you are missed.

Marcia and John Wertheimer last met Mike in Auckland March 2020 when we were about to go aboard with a ship to sail around NZ . Mike came to the hotel in Auckland , where the Vietnam War was a big discussion-as I was within about 400 m from where Mike was 1 year before . Before that it was in Bellerive for Geoffs funeral another Dakin cousin . I need to stop now another than say Mike lived a wonderful life

Peter, Graham and all the extended Family, We are so sorry for your loss. Mike, to us was a man that knew his own mind and did things his way. We will miss our debate’s, sorting the world’s problems, the many bus and train trips with Bill and John. Memories are for ever. Mate, we will miss you greatly as we did with your beloved companion Bella. Grief is the price we pay for love. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Big HUGS. Morag and Dan

Our dear Uncle Mike Your humour and hugs will never be forgotten by us and anyone else who was lucky enough to get them. You were like a second Dad to me (Chris) and your warmth and hugs when things got tough have stayed with me over all the years. We relish the visits you had with us when you were over to visit Pete and the steady hand and good advice you were always happy to share. You will be missed but never forgotten. With all our love Chris, Denise and the family.

Mike was instrumental in the rejuvenation of the RNZAA. His contribution as Secretary and IT guru was fundamental to our survival. We owe Mike a huge thank you. It was my greatest privilege to get to know Mike during this process. He has been a wonderful friend and source of inspiration; so intelligent and selfless. I loved his title for the official RNZAAresponse to the review of the Veteran support act 2014, ‘how was it for you?’. RIP Mike, friend
