I can still recall the day I met Debbie – 8 December 1994 – my first day at Carter Holt Harvey Timber, Greenlane. She was Debbie Murtagh then, PA to Don Herbert. We became very close friends and it was a privilege to share some of her big life events – her wedding day, and welcoming Olivia into the world. Being present at Olivia’s birth will always be one of the greatest honours of my life. Debbie loved a Chardonnay or two and was the soul of every gathering with her infectious laugh and zest for life. Debbie was such a fun person and she will always be THE Dancing Queen! Our lives eventually moved in different directions and we sadly drifted apart. Debbie, you were never far from my thoughts and I have very fond memories to cherish of our many good times together.

Her smile was truly contagious. She brought her own sense of humor into every day. Her unique way of handling stressful and challenging moments was inspiring, and her spirit will forever remain young in our hearts. She has always been — and will always be — ‘28’.
