TUNNICLIFFE, William (Bill) George.
Bill left us peacefully after a long illness on 15th January 2026, aged 87 years.
Bill was an architect and architecture was his passion and life long interest.
Dearly loved husband of Alison and loving father to Geoffrey, the late Warren, Jane, and her partner Karl. Loving grandfather to Connor, Sean, and Xavier.
Many thanks to Hospice Nurse Toni for the compassionate care she provided to Bill, and to the staff of the Summerset Care Center, Hobsonville, who nursed him with so much care and empathy in his final weeks. We will honour Bill's wishes for a private cremation. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice West Auckland.

A much loved Brother-in-Law. Open to researching so many diverse things, and happy to engage in conversations on any subject that had caught his attention. A wonderfully weird sense of humor, that would provoke one to question if he was being serious, or testing you to see if you were keeping up on his real meaning. He will be missed.
Bill (brother-in-law) was one of a kind. He designed a house that I could build myself, then helped with some of the construction and even helped put the vapour barrier in place on the steep roof. His knowledge on all aspects of building and architecture (especially compliance) was second to none. We all (especially my daughter Karen) loved his zany sense of humour. Always friendly and willing to lend a hand, he set a standard of his generation that will be missed by all.
On behalf of the New Zealand Institute of Architects, we extend our deepest condolences to the family of Bill Tunnicliffe, a respected Auckland architect whose work and generosity enriched the profession. Bill’s legacy will continue to inspire, and our thoughts are with you as you remember and celebrate his life.
