Tributes

Είθε να σας δεχτεί ο παράδεισος και να αναπαυθείτε στον παράδεισο μέχρι να συναντηθούμε ξανά στον παράδεισο Our beloved Koumbara, we talked, we laughed, we understood each other. I will miss you but your memory is eternal. I will keep our memories in my heart. May heaven receive you and may you rest in paradise until we meet again in heaven. Koumbara / Nona was a cherished constant in our lives. We will remember her for her generosity, intelligence, beauty, wisdom, charm and for her love of social connection and her ability to bring people together. She was a tremendously proud parent and grandparent and even even prouder Greek, reminding us all of the value of our Hellenic roots. A testament to her Greek pride and her generosity, Nona kindy bestowed her 2004 Athens Olympic Ambassador tracksuit to Fotina, who has kept and treasured it all these years. We will never forget Katie's unwavering support of our family through the hardest of times. Right up until the end, Katie was coherent and thoughtful during our catch-up phone calls where she demonstrated a sincere interest in our lives, asking questions about our family and what we were all up to. We will forever treasure the memory of our dear Koumbara / Nona

RAIZIS, Catherine (Katy) 21 January 1932 – 7 December 2025 RAIZIS, Spyridon (Spiro) 5 October 1922 – 9 December 2002 My beloved mother Catherine was unique and remarkable in so many ways, and we shared a close bond. She entrusted me to take care of her needs during her final years of decline, and knew that I would not let her down. Thanks to the many medical, legal and other professionals across Wellington, who upheld Mum’s right to receive the aged care that she required and deserved, and that my parents had worked so hard for during their lives. Mum and Dad were first class people who embodied the Greek concept of ‘philotimo’. They were people of strong Greek Orthodox faith. We will forever be grateful for their love and devotion, and for being wonderful role models. Mum’s life was uplifted by the recent arrival of our precious granddaughter Olivia – making Mum a great-grandmother! Mum and Dad – you were a class act, and we will forever hold you dear in our hearts! You are remembered fondly and missed by many. May your memory be eternal. The funeral service will be held on Monday 15 December (refer to Main Death Notice). With much love and appreciation Rita Raizis and Michael Daly and family and friends 13 December 2025

GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS, MAMA RAIZIS (nee Mavropoulos), Catherine: 21 January 1932 – 7 December 2025 A month shy of her 94th birthday, and shortly after marking her Name Day (St Catherine’s Day), Mum passed away peacefully in Wellington. She was especially proud of being recognised as a 2018 Kiwibank Local Hero, and is remembered for her lifelong services to Wellington’s Greek Community – the Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Greek Ladies Auxiliary, Greek Orthodox Choir, Greek School, Greek Market Days, and the Greek programme on Access Radio. Mum was also an active member of the wider Wellington community, and a keen supporter of the Wellington Children’s Hospital. Thank you to all her dear friends over the years. She treasured her many friendships within the Greek and Romanian communities, the wider Wellington and Auckland communities, and well beyond. Mum loved travelling - she especially loved her many trips to Rarotonga, where she was known as Mama Catherine! - meeting new people and having new experiences, and she was proud of achieving her long-held dream of penning her memoirs, “Catherine’s Story: From Athens to the Antipodes”. She was absolutely tickled pink to have served as a volunteer at the Athens 2004 Summer Olympics. Always a proud Athenian, she’s remembered as our “White Rose of Athens”. Heartfelt thanks to nurses, carers and companions, including Mary, Honey, Ra, Sheena, Lomi, Lee and Tarenga, and Rose, Lucas and Kyle. In memory of our Mama and Yiayia, donations to the Greek Orthodox Cathedral would be welcomed. Mum's service will be held at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral “O Evangelismos tis Theotokou" (Annunciation of the Birth Giver of God), 3 Hania Street, Mount Victoria at 10am, Monday 15 December 25. Thereafter interment at Makara Cemetery, with refreshments to follow. Service will also be livestreamed. Among the last of her generation to journey onward. With our love, Elsa, Daniel and Tata
