I was saddened to hear of David's passing. He was a long time member of the Southland Astronomical Society and from this connection we used to have long discussions on astronomical matters; particularly by phone. He had a deep understanding of the subject and thought deeply about all manner of celestial objects, from nearby Planets to distant Black Holes! His gift of one of his observatories to the society is much appreciated and we are sorry that he won't see its refurbishment completed at Oreti Sands. We look forward to using it to show visitors through our telescope that will be housed in it. May he now travel among the stars.
