BARNES, Steven William:

Peacefully at Hospice Taranaki just four hours before 2020 ended, Steven left with his close friends and family beside him. Much loved youngest son of Errol and Suzy. Player 2 and younger brother of Matthew and Melissa (deceased). Honorary brother of Caleb and Andrea Humphrey. Dearly missed grandson of Bill and Joan Loader, and Ian and Jackie Barnes (both deceased). A service to celebrate Steven’s life will be held at the Te Henui Chapel, 172-174 Lemon St, New Plymouth, on Wednesday 6 January at 2pm followed by a private cremation. In honour of Steven's chosen dress code, feel free to wear your favourite t-shirt. For those unable to attend, Steven’s service will be live streamed on his tribute page at eagars.co.nz/steven. Donations to Hospice Taranaki would be appreciated in recognition of their collective and caring work.

I would like to send my condolences and thoughts to Steven's family and friends. I met Steven when I was employed at Pak 'n' Save. He was a friendly chap. Always a cheeky grin on his face whenever he greeted me and liked having little chats in the staffroom. I am so saddened that he is no longer in our lives but taking comfort in the fact that he is free from what was causing him pain and that he will be remembered for the amazing man he was. Lot's of love Barnes Family x

I was not close with Steven at all in high school, (we were in the same home class for a while at Spotswood College) but I hope that his close friends and family find comfort in this message. We had the brief chat here and there as kids, so I was aware he had pre-existing conditions that had quite the devastating effect on his health. But he was so accepting of it and he came across as an old soul, even at such a young age. I also remember him talking about how going to Rotorua would compromise his health as well... He was pretty much cool with everyone and everyone was cool with him. To remember this after all of these years is just proof that Steven was just a cool dude. I hope I have the same attitude as him when it's time for me to answer to a higher calling. Rest in peace Steven ✌

Steven. Words cannot express what a loss you have left, thank you for all your friendly conversations as I came into Pakn Save over the years as you watched my family grow and my children also, i always enjoyed being able to stop and say hello but i was always mindful not to linger too long incase i got you in trouble. After watching your service maybe i need not have worried quiet so much! In all the years i knew you, never once were you anything less the person you always were. I will miss our talks and I will miss seeing you around. Rest Easy Steven your battle is over and you shall not be forgotten. I am sorry work prevented me from coming to your funeral but I also know you would have understood. It was a beautiful tribute to you though. I am glad technology allowed me to see it later on. RIP Mate
