Mum, born at the start of the influenza pandemic of 2018 lived an eventful and worthwhile life all the way through to this pandemic 102 years later. I often wondered if her amazing strength and resilence was due in part to that 1918 pandemic. Evidently, she had the influenza as a baby and was not expected to survive, but survive and thrive she did. When you think of all the events and changes the last 100 years have brought they all contributed to how mum was - hardworking, always seeking the best, resilient and gentle and an anchor and a rock for our family. Mum was really blessed by having a sharp mind right up to her passing. Mum's Christian faith never wavered. She devotedly supported and attended her church and dealt with people with an old fashioned graciousness- a real lady. It was great to see how happy she was at her Molly Ryan villa and we enjoyed staying with her there. There was always a delightful morning or afternoon tea available for all callers and shared meals were always available. I was impressed how mum kept her independence by driving for so long, but she was not a slow driver. I remember her saying at age 98 she had to sit her practical driving test twice as on the first go she drove though some roadworks faster than the posted limit. Mum, you will always be in our hearts and thank you for the life example you provided to me and all our family. I am sad that I am not able to be there with you on the day, but we all will be with you in spirit. Bryan Willetts and family, Bundaberg Australia.
