I first met Sandy at Millichope Boarding School in 1951. He was a great mate, full of fun and adventure. I lived at Lythwood Farm, Bayston Hill (near Shrewsbury) and, after we left school, Sandy's family came to live nearby. We both joined Nesscliffe Young Farmers' Club in about 1960/61 but it wasn't long before Sandy uped-sticks for Australia on his £10 ticket and his great adventure began. The trees he planted on Acton Burnell Hill and Haughmond Hill are still there! Thinking of you all at this very sad time. Much love John and Margaret Lycett

I have fond memories of Uncle Sandy living in Shrewsbury. I remember him taking me out in his van when he was working for the Forrestry Commission - very exciting at the age of 4! Mum (Jean) made the trip to NZ to see her brother Sandy and family, on her own, having never flown before. She reminisced many times about her adventure and the fun she had with "The New Zealand Mitchells". Unfortunately our first trip to NZ earlier this year was cancelled. I feel especially sad now, that we were not able to make that trip. We may be far away but our thoughts are with you Aunty Adrienne, Tracey & Euan, at this very sad time. With love David, Alison & Andrew xx

I have such fond childhood memories of my Uncle Sandy. "The Mitchells", my Uncle, Aunty Adrienne, my cousins Tracey and Euan, and their Samoyed dog, would travel from New Plymouth to our home just outside Gisbourne to holiday with my family in our caravan or their tent. I recall camping at Hicks Bay and other beaches around Gisbourne with them. I also remember staying with them in New Plymouth in the house my Uncle built along with an adventureous trip to Auckland. Uncle Sandy and his family helped create warm memories of shared family holidays between the Mitchells and the Donovans. I remember my Uncle Sandy as part of a family that enjoyed life. I recall his wry smile and as a man who spent time making things. He was a very interesting man to me for he had worked as a "rigger" in England - fascinating stuff as a child. Thinking of you Aunty Adrienne, Tracey and Euan at this really difficuly time. With much love, Bridgette (Ealing, London)
