After a short battle with cancer, Milton passed away peacefully at Rotorua hospital.
Raised in Ōkere Falls, Milton attended Whangamarino School and then Rotorua Boys High. He signed up to join the Royal New Zealand Navy at the age of 15 and after 7 yrs service he came home to work as a surveyor for the Ministry of Works. His “retirement” days saw Milton walking or cycling around our streets for up to 4hrs a day collecting rubbish or removing tagging to keep the city he loves clean.

A wonderful tribute and farewell for Uncle Mit…and as always a classic korero by uncle Choc. Have fond memories of him when I grew up at Okere. His regular visits to uncle Bert’s and Aunty Audrey’s on his motorbike,Dad tooting the horn and we’d all wave out when we’d pass him running on the Paengaroa highway…..or if we saw him mowing the lawn at his Mourea whare when we’d be driving to or from town. One particular childhood memory was when we used to go to church by Aunty Tik’s and uncle gave me 20 cents to get a packet of chicken chips after the service..I was a happy little fulla till the collection plate came past and uncle told me to put my money in….he never did reimburse me! Never saw uncle as often when he moved into town but would usually see him on ANZAC Day at Whangamarino. When I started work he’d always pop into the job to have a chat if he was walking past. Was an awesome surprise when Piki put through a random video call late last month and I had my first catch up and korero with uncle in many years….thank you again cuz..that’s now become a treasured memory. Ka kite ano Uncle Mit…Rest In Peace
