Some lovely Tributes already submitted. With brother Robert you were an amazing person Peter. You encouraged those like me who when new to the sport of competitive cycling n ended all the help we could get. I remember you r quite way of speaking and of offering your advic d when asked. You helped me to be able to do my bit on that long race around the Mountain. You were universally respected and liked as a decent, honest and friendly man.
I wish to pass on my sympathy to the family for the loss of Peter(Pedro). He fought a long brave fight and as an ex cyclist he was someone I held in high esteem.
Sorry to here of Peter's passing. He certainly put up a hugh fight over the years.
I remember Peter from our time in the first years of Spotswood College; I particularly recall his prowess in cycling. RIP Peter. Renny Snell Haslemere, Surrey, UK.

Uncle Peter where ever I would visit you and Aunty Janice weather I was calling through or visiting all our family, I always remember that awesome smile of yours and your kind gentle nature will miss having a beer with you and chatting about how fast you'd driven your motorbike on your many trips. You'll be missed by us and all your friends and family, thanks for been a great Uncle. much Love Cody, Ashleigh, Oliver, and Clark
When I was younger and we came to visit on holidays, it always felt like a home when we arrived, no matter the time and distance between us. It was always an exciting time for me, you were my famous uncle and I was so inspired by all that you achieved but also to just be part of the whole family when we were there. You have the most kind, warm-hearted nature about you and that is something I will remember and cherish always.
I'm glad that we were blessed to spend one last Christmas with you. Despite the distance and long stretches of time that passed between our visits, Sam and I could always be sure that there was warmth, lightheartedness and a cuppa tea to greet us at the end of it. The joy you exuded and the passion for life you embodied have certainly been passed on to your granddaughter, now my wife, and I am eternally grateful for that. Moe mai rā e Koro, Izzy
It is with deep sadness that Cycling New Plymouth acknowledges the passing of Peter Cox, life member and patron. Peter's wide-spread involvement in Cycling over many decades included roles as champion rider, committee member, fund raiser, life member and patron. As a rider Peter will be remembered most for his outstanding record in the Round the Mountain Race with over 40 starts between 1964 and 2011, 8 fastest times and 3 wins. Peter was successful in many other Taranaki, west coast and national races with his win in the 1981 Melbourne to Warrnambool classic deserving special mention. As a club member and administrator Peter will be most remembered as an all-round nice guy, who was generous with his time, and who mentored many riders in the craft of cycle racing, on road and track. Cycling New Plymouth sends its condolences to Peter's family and friends at this sad time as we remember not only the champion cyclist, but a generous man who lived a meaningful life with a smile on his face.
Grandad, I have fond memories of my time with you, particularly as a little girl. I loved going to the shop with you to buy 50c mixtures, having running races on the way, and eating Country Split toast with butter and marmite together. I've never forgotten when mum was in the hospital giving birth to Jake, and Hayden and I were staying with you and Janice... I ate every last morsel of my dinner, and you said "you licked that plate so good, we don't even need to wash it!" and you put it straight back in the cupboard (...at the time I was chuffed, but looking back: please tell me you washed it!) I wish we could have been there with you in your final days, but will always cherish having you at our wedding, and particularly Christmas Day 2019 - the last day we spent with you. Your gentle nature, and the way that you noticed and included everyone in a room will always stay with me. You will forever be one of my favourite humans, Grandad. All my love, Sam x
