Dear Rob, Allison and Family It is with deep sadness that we learnt of Joyce’s passing. Memories are precious and we know there will be many that will bring you comfort in the times ahead. We will miss those times of enjoying great chats with Joyce that began so many years ago when we would sit near the coal range to keep warm and enjoy Joyce’s home baking. We shared stories of the past, especially of Waikaia and the freezing winters there. Joyce was a great conversationalist and we enjoyed our time chatting to her. She often shared with us her love of her family. She was so happy and proud to share photos especially of the grandchildren. We remember her wonderful large veggie garden and the colourful display of flowers. Joyce used to walk to town and enjoyed shopping and loved her many bus trips away. Although we had not seen Joyce for many years she was the same warm, caring and friendly lady who we met up with again in recent times. She took a genuine interest in whatever we were doing. We wish to offer our deepest condolences to all the family in your sad loss, our thoughts are with you all. Joyce will be very sadly missed. Wally and Nelda

Rob ,Allison ,David,Matthew ,Hannah and little Jasmine, I am thinking of you all . i have so many lovely memories. I was a teenager when I met Joyce she was a very much loved mother figure and was so very kind to me .Also so loving towards my future husband and all my children. I will never forget her and am with you all in spirit. Her love of cooking and gardening and clothes shopping. I also remember the hand wringer and her having the pearly white linen on the line. She was a very hard worker and would put the young ones of today to shame. Joyce rest in peace Love and hugs from Barbados .xoxoxoxoxo God be with you and bless you all.

Dear Nana I will always remember you as my caring and loving grandmother. You were a big part of my life for over 36 years and it’s difficult to think that you won’t be around any more - it felt like you would always be there because you were so resilient. I will always remember when Matt and I visited your house, we so looked forward to those visits and enjoying cooking pikelets and trips into town which felt like such a big adventure. We won’t forget the time that we hid pinecones on the way to the shops and then struggled to find them again on the return trip. You visited us for Sunday lunch, as well as special occasions, over many years and even up until recently you enjoyed meals with Mum, Dad and Matt at the Working Mans Club. You were strong and independent and looked after your quarter acre home and section in Venus Street for almost 60 years, including flower and vegetable gardens, coal range and hand wringer, much of that time on your own. I will remember your independence as well as your reliability, you were always there for family or friends. We enjoyed hearing your stories of growing up especially taking care of your family from such a young age. You travelled over every corner of the South Island on many bus trips and while you couldn’t travel as much in recent years you did fly up to be part of my wedding to Hayley. Hayley and I are sorry that we have not seen as much of you over the last 10 years as we have lived on the other side of the world. We were very pleased that we were able to visit at Christmas 2020 and especially that you got to meet your great-granddaughter Jasmine. We will always treasure those photos of you holding her. More recently we were still able to speak on the phone and we did send photos and videos of Jasmine. Rest in peace- I will miss you always and am sending love from Hayley and Jasmine as well. Love David
