SMITH, Kenneth William
Born 21 July 1924, died aged 97, peacefully in the early hours of 14 April, with Colleen and Jenny by his side.
Ken was the devoted husband and cherished companion of Joy-Bells (nee Evans, dec), so loved and adored Dad of Colleen and Robbie(dec), and Jenny and Garry. Firstborn son of Jack and Winifred, caring big brother to his 10 siblings Pat (dec), Joyce(dec), Shirley, Muriel (dec), Bonnie, Lois, Iris (dec), June, Victor and Colin (dec). Unconditionally generous and patient father of Bruce, and Teresa and Mark. Loving Pop and Poppa to Vanita and Oliver, and Savannah; Angela and Rob, Daniel and Alysha, Robbie and Asaka, Kenny (dec) and Tim; James and Nicola; and Fleur and Mirko; Greatgrandfather of Ethan, Calvin and Isabella; Holly; Luna and Blake; and Kiko.
A true Christian gentleman, businessman, gardener extraordinaire, champion tomato and feijoa grower, champion water skier and athlete, medal-winning flea-weight boxer, superfast rugby league winger, handy with a hammer, screwdriver, chainsaw, drill and paintbrush - for anything that needed doing anywhere for anyone. He loved pussycats, fishing, playing his harmonica, oysters and chips, swimming at the beach - almost all year 'round. He was a cockle and pipi fritter maker, grapefruit juicer, cheese-on-toaster, home-brewer, always willing to share and help wherever, whenever. A man of honesty, integrity, and generosity.
Remember the example he set, make him proud. Yes, he's giving you another chance. Our kind, warm-hearted gentleman Dad with the beautiful smile has gone, to be at rest with Mum, awaiting Jehovah’s resurrection.
God saw that you were weary, the hill too steep to climb this time. He gently closed your tired eyes, and whispered "Peace be thine".
Many thanks once again to the staff at Amberlea Resthome, Algies Bay, for your loving care of Dad and Mum in their times of greatest need - this has been a most precious gift.
Love is patient, Love is kind,
It does not envy,
It does not boast – It is not proud,
It does not dishonour others.
It is not self-seeking.
It is not easily angered.
(1 Corinthians 13:4-5)
Love is not changed by death.
Nothing is lost.
And all in the end is harvest.
(‘Eurydice’, Edith Sitwell, 1887-1964)

Time to say good bye Ken, you have been the guiding light thru out my life. Having you as an older brother has been an absolute treasure ,how you and Joy took care of me during the mid 50s, for 3years,and steered me down the right path to adulthood. The love and understanding you and Joy shared with me and the fishing trips, working with you at Showcard's + Posters,,Boyer+Gedde and Matt Chote,of working together on the basement for 6mths at your home in One Tree Hill, of the flounder spear fishing at the Panmure Basin. Although there was 15 years of age, between us,they seemed to vanish as time moved on ,and we became great mates of equal standing. Thanks for such fine memories Ken, they will be treasured for ever. = Wit Love Vic,Benjie,David Zane,Tracey+Andre
Saddened to hear of Uncle Ken's passing. The world has lost a top bloke. Even tho' I have not seen him for a few years, I can still recall that open smile, the glint in his eyes. My condolences to my cousins, to my Aunty Shirley, Aunty Bonnie, Aunty Lois, Aunty June and Uncle Vic. May you take comfort in those close to you. And may Uncle Ken live long in our memories.
A true gentleman. Loved & respected older brother of the late Colin, loved & respected brother in law of Yvonne. Uncle to Grant, Kerry, Lisa, Gina, Mark & Kylie. Never will be forgotten.
My darling eldest brother Ken.....you will be forever remembered for your love and kindness to us all especially Bonnie ,Lois , June, Iris (late) and Yvonne.... we tried to visit him frequently while at Snells Beach and Amberlea Resthome. We cherished the time spent with him reminiscing of Ponsonby and Kingsland where we mainly lived our early lives and the years afterwards as we fostered our separate families. A lovely brother whose memory will be with us for ever. Lois xxxx
My darling Dad. All my love to you, forever. We had some great 'oysters 'n chips parties' huh. We will miss you, but your loving presence will be with us forever. We love you. Your daughter Jenny, son-in-law Garry, and grandson James, xxx
My dear and loving father has left us. Faithful to our true and Almighty God. Privileged to be part of the human family gathered together in his name. Jehovah our Heavenly Father promised he would gather a people for his name in the Last Days. Not long my dear Father and Mother before we are re-united in the ressurection our Creator has promised. Bye for now, until we meet again. Love you.
