"I was a student at Homerton College, Cambridge from 1969/72 and as part of my course, attended lectures given by Jean. She was a very gracious, caring lady and was well liked by her students. She always captivated her classes with interesting lectures and her students mattered to her, taking an interest in what they had to offer/say. After I graduated and had taught for a while, I married and came to Dunedin to live. Some years later whilst passing through Auckland airport en route to visit family in UK I bumped into Jean who was as surprised to see me as I was her. We had a coffee together and a good time reminiscing before going our own ways again. I had no idea that she was a Kiwi until that unscheduled meeting! How we laughed! I am pleased to read of her lengthy retirement close to her loved family and send my condolences to you all as you celebrate the life of a special lady and mourn her loss. Kindest wishes to you all Jan Probert"
