There is never a week that goes by when we don't mention or think about Pat and John. Our family know of them like part our own family. They were a special part of our lives since we first met in 1981 in Dunedin. The kindness they showed us has stayed with us all these years. We remember staying with them in Truby King St (and the tears each time we left), our inclusion into the Toon family, how Richard and Grazia, Jannise and Terry and the Day family also welcomed us into their world....we are forever grateful. We remember when Richard flew them to stay with us in Vasse Western Australia, we were all sitting in our lounge room watching "Spicks and Specks" when Pat jumped up excitedly and exclaimed....'there's John Brough's boy! It was of course Alan Brough from Harwera (I don't think Pat had never met Alan Brough). They spent 3 weeks with us, touring & sharing our part of the world & met our family. After watching the beautiful service we could not help but smile at some of the great "Pat" moments that we also experienced, like her singing "here we are again, happy as can be...." while waving her hands as she sang those infamous words. And those gifts & chockies under the pillows when we stayed with them. When visiting Richard's house she spotted her grandson on the couch, arms around a girl, and she tapped him on the shoulder and said "don't ever think that you invented that...we were doing it 60 years ago". We feel very honoured to have shared 40+ years as part of Pat & John's life and we take comfort knowing that they are reunited forever. They have shown us the true meaning of love, caring and family, and will always remain in our hearts. Mike & Priscilla (WA)
Hey beautiful godmother of mine I'm very sorry for the lost of ur mum she was the most beautiful lady and I will miss her so much and member she always in ur heart
Dear Jannise, Richard and Grazia and your families. Our memories of Aunty Pat and her famous hugs will live on. She was a very special person whose support for Dad during Mum's illness was amazing; likewise in welcoming Bob into our family so many years ago. We will miss her dearly but also give thanks for having known her love. May you find peace during this sad time and remember all the wonderful times you shared, so many momentus occasions. I'm sure she will be welcomed and looked after by Uncle Terry and the rest if the family who have passed before. Much love from Jennifer, Duncan, Fiona and Bryce; Zachary, Tahlia and Caleb
What a grand amazing lady your mum was Richard. Jan and I know how proud you all were of her and she of all of you. The last time we saw Patsy was with Grazia at the Covid 19 vaccination centre. She instantly recognised us and knew who we were and what we were up to last time we were all together. Ironically, both Jan and I currently have Covid - but with boosters etc - the symptoms are tolerable and hopefully will be short lived. Patsy was a very lovely woman, fun to be with and fun to be around. We will be with you in spirit With warmest regards Gordon and Jan
Sending condolences to all the family on the passing of a much loved mum, granma, great-granma. The end of an era and the loss of another "Hawera Municipal brass band supporter of many years ago". I remember your mum, as a very quiet, soft spoken lady and both your parents were very much respected Hawera people. Thinking of you all at this difficult time. Wonderful memories will always hold your mum close within your hearts forever. Much love from all the Valentine family.x
