Uncle Roger, I laugh when i think of dad always making you get stuck into jobs whenever you came over for a holiday. Like the time you both swept my chimney in my first house and it was like watching an episode of the chuckle brothers. Thanks for all the times you listened to me rambling on and giving your best advice instead of my dad`s lecturing. Rest In Peace, you will be forever in our hearts Lots of love Elise, Darrell, Linda and Family xxx
My dear uncle Roger, remembering such happy times. As a child coming to stay over only to be missing my mum in the middle of the night, so you did no more than take me home into the arms of my mum, I loved you for that. We were sad when you left for newzealand but the next year we joined you. Where we shared so many happy memories with you and the family. Many fun camping trips round the island. You got me my first job in the factory you and aunty brenda worked in. But then we came back to England, but every year you came back to see us all, and the fun times continued for those few short weeks. Always very sad when you both left for home at the end of the holiday. I will always remember your lovely smile and the singing. And the lovely warm hugs you gave, god bless and sleep tight uncle Roger you can sit on the bench up in heaven telling our Anthony all your stories now love and miss you always rest in peace uncle Roger John karen and family xxxx
Roger will always be fondly remembered not just by myself but by everyone who had the pleasure to have him in their lives. It was always a great pleasure to meet up with him and Brenda, be it in Leicester or Auckland, you were guaranteed a beaming smile and huge firm hug. Along with a good brew, music was a passion. He would have made an awful ninja as he always had a song or a whistle wherever he went. You just knew Roger was around. Tom and I will never forget meeting Roger and Brenda for a meal in a pub in Leicester city centre after work one Friday. 8pm came and unexpectedly the music went up and the place descended into what resembled a disco. That was it, his face lit up and the party was on!! Thanks for the fun and fabulous memories. Natalie and Tom xx
Roger was Cousin and a good friend to me from our early School days at Green Lane Road AKA Cabbage College. with you today. After Roger and Carl emigrated to New Zealand in the 70s . It influenced by both Marlene and myself to visit them in New Zealand. We were warmly hosted by both Families and had some of the most memorable times in our lives, touring and camping with them was great fun with many laughs and to visit the wilds and see the beauty of New Zealand was wonderful. Thankyou, we will be forever grateful for your hospitality and friendliness that shaped our future lives. Roger was eager to muck in and help out on his visits, wanting to be active and helping. He was keen to watch the English TV soaps that were broadcast in N.Z. He liked things tidy and ship shape, we envied his car that was kept immaculate. A pet hate if any of his were the trees in his garden especially when the leaves dropped and littered the lawn and drive. They disappeared gradually over time. He kept up the family tradition of growing kidney beans and veggies. He always stood up for himself. Thank You Roger for being part of our lives, you will Always be Loved and Never be Forgotten. Rest In Peace. Keith Sampey and Family
It was always a special treat when Uncle Roger and Auntie Brenda can to the U.K. to visit the family. Roger was a special man with great warmth and a cheeky sense of humour - he new exactly the right buttons to press to get a reaction out of his brother Carl! He was always very caring towards us all and was always a lovely man to talk to about just about anything. Although he loved home he was immensely proud of his beautiful new country New Zealand . We were lucky to visit NZ before we lost my wife - his niece Lorraine - and he went out of his way to give us a true Kiwi welcome . She loved him very much and he brought love into her life. Whilst losing someone as special as Roger is hard and there will be lots of tears we will remember the fun we had with him and how lucky we were to have known him. One thing That always makes me smile is his reaction to finding the little present my dog left him one morning in Cornwall ……. Rest in peace Roger xxx
