Dear Hendy, Mark and Siane, we watched the videos from afar but always felt Ian was an amazing man. Warm, generous and funny. From my teenage years in Hong Kong and up to all sorts of mischief with Mark - including dressing up in Hendy’s swimwear, to helping Fay and I settle in New Zealand with invites to the farm and tractor rides for the kids. Many thanks to always being kind, welcoming and gloriously funny. Love Chris, Fay - Jamie and Sophie
What a wonderful man. Ian taught me in my 1st days of flying the Jumbo in Hong Kong, both Simulator and Aircraft. A thoroughly professional Aviator. A man whose company I also enjoyed greatly after Flights over a libation at the Old Cathay Club at Kai Tak. Ian was an easy man to look up to, one who was easy to approach, chat and solve any issues that were confronting. For the lovely family I watched at the Service, feel both pleased and proud of Ian, he was a giant amongst men. Thoughts with you all, JJ.
Dear Hendy, Mark & Siane, Thank you for a lovely service and we are sending you all our love & condolences. Your trips to Shielhill are still remembered fondly by all Wedderspoon’s and who can forget the legendary Haka lessons. I hope Steve and dad are sharing a dram discussing if Scotland will ever beat NZ at rugby. All our love Andrew, Nicki, Ella, Tilly and Zara x x
Hendy and all your lovely family , I send my heartfelt condolences in the passing of your Ian, your Grandman. I remember his wonderful smile, twinkle in his eye, his great sense of humour and generosity. An absolutely beautiful service for a beautiful man ...... farewell Ian xo Love Janice
Dear Hendi, Mark and Siane, It was a great shock to hear the news. To me Steve will always be remembered as the man who first showed me the Haka. The first time was c. 1991 when Steve and Hendi were visiting my parents at Shielhill in Scotland. Hendi and Steve were so kind and hospitable to me, my brother and friends during our visit to NZ for the Lions rugby tour and of course there was some late night displays of the Haka on the deck on the house in Takapuna. What a lovely service (tuning in from Grand Cayman) and a suiting tribute to a great man. Lots of Love Jamie and Ellie Wedderspoon
Dearest Hendi, Mark and Siane, Sending you all so much love and sympathy for the passing of Ian. I've know Hendi, Ian and Siane my whole life from Hong Kong days to NZ memories, and I always remember Ian being a gentle, authentic and charming human. Love and hugs, Sarah Morgan (nee Manning) and the Morgan family
We are very sad to hear about Captain Ian. Our heartfelt condolences to your family. Captain Ian was such a wonderful, intelligent and gentle person. Take care Auntie Hendy.
A giant Kauri has fallen in the rain forest and we all mourn the passing of a wonderful man. Our hearts go out to Hendy, Mark, Siane and all the family at this very difficult time. Ian was an absolute inspiration and we would listen with awe as he recounted his flying days and the stories of his early years growing up on the West Coast. We will miss his smile and wonderful sense of humour but we will never forget the legacy of what he achieved in his lifetime and he will live on in our hearts.....Rest In Peace Ian.....
