Tributes

I have such fond memories of growing up in Stokes Valley with ‘The Knights’ as close family friends. Our parents’ friendship was special and enduring, and continues today. Fiona was born the day before me in the same maternity home, in the room next door. Our mothers had been friends prior to our births- the birth of their third born’s a day apart was simply another connection. Sadly, Fiona and I only met once or twice as adults, and I regret this, as she seems to have taken the warmth, kindness and sense of mischievousness I remember from her childhood into her adulthood. To Andrew and Fiona’s children, and the rest of The Knights… I am so sorry you have lost a much loved partner, mother, daughter, sister and aunty. She was obviously so well loved, and loved well in return. Jane Feek

Fiona shared a great sense of adventure, and would be up for just about anything. We shared lots of great times. We travelled through Morocco by train, to the Isle of Jersey and our greatest adventure, across America by bicycle. We travelled for 2 months spending 24/7 with each other and we would end each day sharing the smallest 2 person tent you can imagine. It was hot and very hard at times. There were loads of laughs along the way as well as a fair share of frustration, but Fiona always hung in there when the going got really tough, and we would almost always end up with a laugh. She was an incredibly strong, funny and caring person and I am forever grateful that Fiona was a part of my life. I am so happy that I was also there when Fiona and Andrew, my flatmate, got together. All of us at Brondesbury Court at that time had so many great times together and unforgettable memories. To Andrew, Connor, Ella and Maddy, I send you my most heartfelt condolences from over here in Australia. It is clear that you share an amazing love and respect and support for each other, a shining reflection of your beautiful mum. My thoughts are also with the rest of the Knight family. Love Kaz xx

I met Fiona, over 40 years ago, when we started our first jobs at the Reserve Bank in Wellington. A great group of friends and the socialising began. Fiona was always so happy and fun and I soon met her sisters on the train rides from the Hutt, and the rest of the family – all so much fun. Fiona moved on to teacher training as she found it far more exciting than banking. I have so many fond memories – Autotour of Europe with Fiona in 1989, both of us moving to Auckland on our return from overseas, weddings, children being born, play dates. I am living back in Wellington and although we hadn’t seen each other for some while, we messaged in recent years as we realised our children (Ella, Alex and Steph) were at Otago Uni together. Always a very warm hearted and generous person, Fiona will be dearly missed. Sending all our love and deepest sympathies to Andrew, Connor, Ella, Maddy and all the Knight family, who I remember so well. Sandra Calder (nee Welsh) and Pete, Steph and Alex xoxo

We lived next door to the Knight family (all 9 of them!) throughout our childhood. For my sister & I it was the best of times. We always remember Fiona’s sense of humour, the fun & antics had when we hung out together. You and all the family are in our thoughts and prayers. at this sad time.
