You were so young at heart, so open minded and non judgemental. You were always so interested in everything around you and and showed genuine interest in me and my family. Your keen sense of humor portrayed that "rascal" within, and I loved sharing a laugh with you. You were pragmatic and did your darndest to remain positive when it felt like things were stacking up against you. Your love of and loyalty to your family was second to none. You were one of a kind Beth. Sally and Justin ( friends of Rosie)

Beth was a darling. Always up with the play - sport & politics & general news. Always remembered my old news & keen to catch up with my latest news. My father died when I was 15 & I loved to hear stories about him from Beth. My mum (Lily Kettlewell) could be outrageous- Beth calmed her down. I have great memories of going to stay in the holidays with my sister & Mum. Indeed it is the end of an era & I shall miss our phone calls & visits & the laughs and the memories. RIP lovely Aunty Beth xx Helen (Elizabeth) Pugh (niece & goddaughter)

Dear Rosie Sending my deepest sympathy to you and the family on Beth's passing. What a wonderful life she had - 95 years young! You have so many memories to cherish as you mourn your dear Mum - may the days, weeks and months ahead be kind to you. Sending big hugs Warmest regards Chrissie xx

How fortunate we have been to have had Aunty Beth in our lives. She was always genuinely caring, loving, offered advice, made you feel worthy and told it like it is. Beth was also a connection to my grandparents Frank and Hazel and I soaked up any stories she offered about her time living in Newlands with them when she and Jack were newly married. Aunty Beth and Uncle Jack came and watched me ride in my first race at New Plymouth racecourse when no one else did. Beth would ring regularly after my sister passed away just to make sure I was ok. Our long conversations helped me immensely and gave me strength. I will miss you Aunty. Xx

So many memories, sitting at the book shelf in Balance street, the dolls house that was enjoyed by three generations. Sliding down the banister that was that was discouraged by Grandma but only improved by the excitement of trying not to get caught! Only to take my daughter back years later and have Grandma look the other way when the great grandchildren got upto the same tricks. Laughing together with Grandma and my sister as we bonded in the realization that the mothers prep talk before going out of; "be good now children use your manners!" Is much the same in any generation. Asking Grandma as a child "how do you keep such a big house so tidy?" And the wonderful advice of "don't put things down Alice, put them away" Love Alice xox

I always remember Auntie Beth as one of the sharpest, astute people, never afraid to call it as it was and pull you up for any transgressions!. Nothing got past Beth. I also remember as a very young child, visiting her and Jack and the cousins in their family home in Ballance St New Plymouth, where the family lived for all of my life. Beth you will be sadly missed, I was so much looking forward to visiting you when I come over on October. Farewell. Trish Menzies, Australia

Auntie Beth though not directly related to me I have always considered her to be like a grandmother she was always called Great auntie Beth and though she always said that make me sound so old I have considered her to be like a second grandmother, her and my Nana Ida kettlewell were great friends so a defacto Nana I guess. I tried to visit her twice a year on a regular basis and I remember her and uncle Jack always making room for me when I was in my teen years living and working on Mt egmont. She was so smart and up to play with world events,I remember dropping my son ( lachlan) off to meet her he was about to go to PHIMS and I had something to do in town I said you 2 play nice when I got back my son said this lady knows more about the school I'm going too than me.I will miss her and our talks she certainly kept a few secrets from my parents lol

Our families have been intertwined for so many years. Our father, Doug, was brought up with Jack, Lily and Colin for part of his life and when he married Ida they continued to see Jack, Lily and Colin and their families in Wellington. A few years later Doug and Ida stayed with Jack and Beth and the children in Newlands when they were waiting to buy a business in Eastbourne. It was there that Sandra started to play the piano in Newlands and it was Aunty Beth who encouraged Ida to get her and Lynn taught – which happened in Eastbourne. There was a further connection with Aunty Beth when Lynn and Sandy went to the same school Beth had gone to, Wellington Girls College. Jack and Beth continued to see our family, there were visits to New Plymouth from various family over the years, Jim and Sandy. Trish and Lynn were living in Australia so it was more difficult for them but the family connection remained with Allen Kettlewell (Jim and Maureen’s son) visiting and then latterly his son Lachlan. Aunty Beth is now with her beloved Jack. May she rest in peace. She will always be remembered by us all for her kindness, her advice, her empathy and her understanding of family dynamics.

I have probably known Beth for longer than any other living person having first met her before she and Jack were married. Beth has always been "Auntie Beth" to me although she was'nt actually a real auntie as such. Jack was my father's cousin but they were raised as brothers when Jack's father Frank stepped in after Dad's father Percy died when Doug was only 2 months old. No family or widows benefit in those days. I have always kept in contact with Jack and Beth and have always been made welcome as part of the Kettlewell family whenever I was passing through NP. A highlight was living with them both in the old homestead in Newlands when we moved back to Wellington. Beth's passing marks the passing of an era and she will be sorely missed.
