We only ever spoke on the phone a handful of times but these conversations will always be remembered, you are such a caring, genuine, kind and beautiful man. May your soul Rest In Peace, Love your grandson Bryce
If you were to pick 3 words to describe Arnold they would be similar for everyone I think, a “gentleman”, “quiet” and “humble”. He loved all animals, from his beloved rabbits, to turtles, to birds and wildlife they saw on their trips. Arnold’s calm presence has been a part of our family for over 17 years, at every Christmas celebration he was always good natured about wearing a Christmas cracker hat, and reading out the corny joke. He loved his roast meal and Yorkshire puddings, and often talking with our nan (also from Yorkshire) about their tough upbringings in Yorkshire through the 2nd world war and the years beyond. He hated the fuss around his birthday, but loved the cake! He was always grateful for whatever he was given but he definitely loved tools the best!. He also loved that campervan that he and mum had so many adventures in, and I think his heart broke a little when they could no longer manage the longer road trips to those little out of the way places. When he got sick he was very philosophical, constantly saying he had had a good life, and didn’t want to bother anyone, even as things progressed. The last 9 months I know were particularly hard for both mum and him, with covid causing all sorts of challenges and isolation. We are so proud of you both, for the way you just got on with it and made the best that you could with the time left. We also understand how tough it was for his family living overseas, but we hope you know he was cared for and surrounded by love until the very end. We all know Arnold would have hated all of this fuss, and being the centre of attention, but in his quiet way he would have been proud that everyone came together as a family to support and help each other along this journey. We hope you are somewhere warm and sunny Arnold. We know that one day we will see you again. Until then, safe journey on gentle seas.
IGrandad I have so many memories of the times we spent together from the watch you bought me when I had my first filling at the dentist and always saying come on Eileen when I was walking to slow .All the times on Waiheke when I picked and ate so many plums off your trees I made myself sick. I have so many more memories of our time together. You are always in our hearts and will never be forgotten Love Simone, Dave, Emilee and Ryley xxxx
You may be gone from our sight dad but you will live forever in all our hearts. Rest peacefully till we meet again. Your loving son, Terry.
