Tributes

Very sad to learn of Margaret's (or, as I knew her, 'Miss Hurley') passing. My father, JAM ('Mick') Snell was headmaster at Omata School 1953-1963; we lived in the then schoolhouse adjacent to the school (still present, although now privately owned) and I myself attended the school as a pupil 1953-1959. It was then a 3-teacher school and in my time Miss Hurley was the Infants' mistress there. I remember her well, including her piano playing. Condolences to Margaret's family and friends. I was saddened to hear of Margarets Death. RIP. I had never met her ( only Nora when she was in England, many years ago ). When my Mum died I took over keeping the link with our New Zealand family, and latterly Margaret and I have kept in touch, loosely maybe, unless Ireland were playing the All Blacks!! Somehow we all seem to follow the Rugby. It looks like she will be very sorely missed, not just by Sr. Connie, but by all her connections. A sudden death is very hard to come to terms with, and I send my heartfelt condolences to you all.

Our sincere sympathies to Sr Connie and to all the extended Hurley families on the passing of Margaret. She was one amazing person in all walks of life. We have so many great memories of our trip to New Zealand in 2016 and the magical moments spent with Margaret in her homeland and in her beloved church. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. We will join with you on the livestream of her funeral mass. Vincent, Ann and the O Donovan / Murphy family, Courtmacsherry, Ireland.

I loved Margaret’s introduction to the music for Sunday Masses. Her energy and enthusiasm “sold it” to the congregation. Her dedication to our Parish music was wonderful to see and experience. I very much appreciated her years of dedication to this ministry. Gabrielle

She was a truly gifted person in so many ways and contributed to the musical life of New Plymouth..her achievements were enormous in the teaching world and other areas. Thinking of Aunty Margaret and the rest of our family today. We have lot of fun memories of visiting many of our Great Aunties in their home in New Plymouth. I am really grateful for all of the time and interest Margret took in us and her extensive amount of grand nieces and nephews. Even living in the South Island we always felt remembered and part of the family. Party of Margaret's legacy is being a wonderful Aunt to my Dad and his siblings. They were then wonderful to us and hopefully we will pass this to our own nieces and nephews.. I am thankful for our time together

It Is with a sad heart We send condolences And sympathy to you Sister Connie and all the extended family with a sudden passing of your beloved Margaret. Thank you for sharing her with us with her talent to make us all feel comfortable and chirpy when things are not going quite right. Always a lady with heaps of commonsense to impart. Loved the interaction with her, her musical gift and know she will be sadly missed by the family and wider community. Blessings Margaret God speed. Pauline CrowleyZieltjes and Tony Zieltjes

I 'am so sorry to hear of the passing of Miss Hurley, my deepest sympathy go out to all her family. I had the pleasure of having her as my English Teacher at Spotswood College in 1991. I have some fond memories of her from my time as her student, from the smile on her face when I had finished all my work before anyone else and getting it right to her asking me to help the other students with their work, which I absolutely loved, It later helped curve my career path to becoming a Teacher Aide. Thanks for being such a wonderful teacher and making my first year of High School a little less scarier. Fly High Miss Hurley.

Margaret was highly regarded and hugely respected as a teacher who did everything she could to ensure the very best possible outcomes for all the students in her care. Her musical gifts added a very special touch to so many occasions in the church but also for the entertainment and enjoyment of many others throughout the years. She will always be fondly remembered for her interest in all those she met, her no nonsense approach to issues and, finally, for the love and pride she had for everybody in her extended family.

Our very sincere sympathy to all Margarets family and friends. We are so sorry to hear of her death. May she now enjoy eternal light and life with her parents and all her loved ones gone before her. Please pass on our sympathy to Sr. Connie (how is she keeping?). We loved to hear from Margaret - her great emails and letters keeping us up to date with news of all of the Hurley family. We have lost a great connection to our New Zealand cousins. She was a wonderful person and gave so much of herself to everybody. We hope we can join you all online for her funeral Mass. We will be praying with you and for you.

We are sending our deep sympathy and condolences. Maggie was So welcoming when we first arrived in New Plymouth at St. Joseph’s Parish from Canada. She was always very supportive and helpful for youth masses. She continued to email me regularly and on special occasions even After we move back to Alberts. She will be dearly missed.

Mass will no longer be the same without Maggie. From my experiences of being part of the St Joseph Choir, Maggie was always on the ball, eager to iron out all the finer details in our practices building up to Christmas or Easter. Her bright smile and cheek in her morning announcements of the mass's hymns will always be ingrained in my memory. She would usually say "if you don't sing it well enough, I'll make you do all the verses!" I treasure the times when she would talk to me about fond memories of my grandmother, who I unfortunately have never gotten to know, but feel comforted by her recollections of her. You will be dearly missed Maggie, the hymns won't be same without you! Condolences to the Hurley family.
