Tributes

When ever I saw uncle Bill, I felt at ease, conversations with him were a real pleasure, full of warmth and good humour. I know he was intelligent and I loved listening to his wealth of worldly experiences and when he talked of his wonderful family. He moved with the times in his approach to life and was always optimistic. A case in point being how he used to say re; of West Ham’s 40-odd years of disastrous performances ”we are going through bad times John” and I’d agree but then with a wink and a smile he’d say “but things will work out!” I’ll never forget going to a match with him must be 15 odd years ago, he was so excited and I was so happy to have my dear uncle bill besides me singing “bubbles” at the top of our voices! We will forever remember him with the greasiest affection! Sending all our love and deepest sympathies to you Cathy, family and friends from John, Lorraine and family. Xxx

It was a befitting service for uncle Bill, a larger than life character who lived life to the full and a loving family man x

Bill was the true definition of gentleman. He lit up any room that was lucky to have him in it, and was always so kind, loving and thoughtful. I met him at his 70th after he got back from a run at the running club, and greeted me with a warm hug and a kiss on the cheek. I was lucky enough to see him at the baby shower for his newest great grand baby, and had some great laughs and conversation with him, followed by yet another warm hug and kiss goodbye. I will never forget you Bill, and thank you for being such an inspiration on how to be a good bloke.

My first memory of meeting Uncle Billy was in my early 20's. I had become a Mum to my eldest daughter & i believe Uncle Bill hadnt long been seeing Kathy. With his head scarf he looked quite hippy like & oh boy, what a charmer. My older sister Jackie & myself went to NZ 20 years ago & Uncle Billy drove us around a lot of the North Island. We learnt so much from him & relished our time with him. We stayed with Uncle Billy & Kathy & they welcomed us into their home. He & Kathy introduced me to Macadamia nuts...im still hooked on them!! You will never be forgotten Uncle Bill, Love you always. xxxx

Dad, I was guttered to get the news. It is so long since we last caught up. Why do we always think ‘one day ..’ and then the days run out and it is too late? Although I have been over in Blighty for 21 years now, you (and the family) have always been in my thoughts. I remember the humor and kindness you showed to me and that can never be taken away from me. Rest in peace Dad till we meet again. Love Wayne xxxx

Our Uncle Bill, what a lovely man. Always had a smile and a 'Hello Mate or 'You alright sweetheart' . I have lovely memories of long conversations on the phone about the world, politics but usually it always came back to sport. A last true gentleman who's warmth and kindness shone through wherever he was. We will miss your trips back 'home' Uncle Bill. All our love always Kevin, Diane & Kimberley x This is a picture from your last trip home.

Dear Uncle Billy To a truly great man, who loved us all so warmly, and had such selfless care for others. With you we laughed much as you shared your inimitable mirth freely. You also encouraged so many of us, and we are grateful for your wisdom down the years, always given with grace and kindness. We looked forward to your visits back to Blighty and remember our joyful times spent together with you. Much love, Ralph and Susan (pictured with Colin).
