Norman was born in Kaponga to parents Jean and Jack Harrop. Jean passed away in 1967 and Jack ( John) Fowler-Harrop who was a builder in 1959. Norman grew up in Kaponga with his brothers and sisters. Margaret - Eddie- George –Gordon- Ronnie- Kenny- Gloria and Barbara. Their lives as children were typical of many from that era, a crowded smaller house and many shared simple belongings. A copper for heating the washing water, ringer washing machine and shared bathwater. They took family holidays at Bill Allen’s beach towards Opunaki. The boys in the family were all involved in wrestling. Norman lived with Marian and Alf Bevans when his father died, Milking cows in the morning and attending High School during the day. He then went to work in the Kaponga and Awatuna Dairy Factories and the Kawarau pulp mill. When Norman and Wilma married in 1963 they went milking at Matapu. They started with a few simple belongings such as an Austin A70 car and a few pieces of furniture. They then went share milking working their way up to their own farm and herd on the Auroa road which became the established family home. The Austin A 70 had developed into a love for Citroens and a few Fords. Norman was an active member of the Manaia Lions Club and in 2010 Norman was made a life member, being presented with the prestigious Lloyd Morgan Charitable Trust Award. He was president and chairman for many years . Norman was actively involved in many of the charitable fundraising events . Norman and Wilma went into partnership with Claud Marchant to start Genebanque New Zealand ltd, also working with Clive & Vicky Dorn for 15 – 20 years. Normans love was for his family. Lynley and Stephen, Paul, Brendon and Davina with grandchildren, Douglas and Lachlan, Alisha, Jacinta and Nicholas, Khey Jhyn and great grandchildren Lainey and Kiwai. So very proud of their achievements and he helped in many ways to smooth their path.
