Funeral service held at Dil's Funeral Services
Rest in peace dear Oma, I will always remember you as strong and funny, quick with a quip or to crack a joke, always with a fresh baked boterkoek or apple tart to treat us when we came to visit. Fiercely and stubbornly independent until the very end, you accomplished so much in your lifetime. When I think of you and the lessons you taught to your daughters and us grandkids, and the lessons that will live on through us, I think of resiliency and determination, strength of will and independence. Thank you for these gifts, I treasure them and do not take them lightly. You were so generous with your love towards us grandkids, always interested in what we were doing, listening to our stories. You loved to think and learn about what was going on in the world, something thing we bonded over. I’ll miss talking to you about current events, which news outlets were saying what and what we thought was really going on. I’ll miss our long talks over coffee and cake about the big geopolitical struggles of the day, or the new things you were planting in your garden, nothing was too big or too small to sit and discuss, debate and for me to learn about from you. You will be dearly missed. I’m proud of you for living your life on your terms, knowing what you want and holding it dear, supporting yourself and your family for so long. I’m glad you are able to rest now and have the knowledge that your strength is lived on in your family, who will remember you always.
