Paul was a friend and also a fellow member of the Lions Club of Coromandel. He was a "happy, go lucky" person who was always there for working bees, or to help someone out. He also loved his CB radio. Rest in Peace, old friend. Nigel Strongman

Over the years I have worked with or bumped into many people who were work mates and friends to dad. All have a funny story to tell about something he's done. Steve would say "once seen, never forgotten" Friends who have not seen dad or I for over 30 years always ask how he is. Most of the best memories I have are of fishing and since then it hasn't been so interesting. I think I'll start going out again so we can relive those awesome stories about the ones that got away. Thanks for being my dad. I'm sorry we didn't get that last road trip we were talking about, I reckon you can ride shotgun from now on. See you dad. Love you.

Paul was truly an inspiration to me. An uncle on the other side of the world for the most part of my life, my first memories of him were pushing me down the banks of the garden at Fairways in a wheelbarrow - probably not allowed these days with toddlers and health & safety! It was lovely to see Paul again on his recent trips to the UK and experience what a lovely, funny and kindhearted man he was. Then after his unexpected stay in hospital in Leicester in 2019, I accompanied him back to Auckland on two A380s. It was a long trip and we talked a lot about our lives, and I really felt reconnected by the time we arrived in Auckland. Paul also spent a lot of time telling me all about the plane and at what altitude we were currently at, from all the information on the screen in front of him - he didn't watch a single film or programme in over 24 hours! It was a great journey and he was in great spirits given he had just come out of hospital and his diagnosis. We talked regularly after that, and I heard more all about my lovely New Zealand relatives and Paul's life there. We also talked about his illness and how he was feeling; what I admire the most is his boundless positivity and energy through a very testing time. He had the constant love and support of his lovely family, but I'm glad I was there albeit remotely to offer some support and love by listening and chatting to him often. RIP Paul, an unwaveringly happy man whose glass was always half full (except when he had drained it of his home brewed rocket fuel!). Much love and sincerest condolences to the New Zealand family x
