Brenton was the first male adult I was allowed to call by his first name. This was a huge privilege and one I will never forget. Brenton, Peggy and their family, built their house on Kingseat Road at the same time we did. My Dad, David Ansin (deceased) and Brenton were not just neighbours, they were workmates at Fletchers and friends. We were close, times were tough and we.supported each other. The neighbourhood kids, us, Howes and Bradys, would go off wandering the farmland behind our sections, hard to believe now with it all being houses, and there were the dares to "nick" a cabbage or whatever was in season from McMikkens. Good times. There were many times when we would be growled by Brenton, he was good at that lol and it was a time when ANY adult ciuld growl a kid for doing the wrong thing. He would go off! But he would also take the time to explain why: Our clothes covered in mud from playing in the drain, now your Mother has to clean them. Rips in clothing from climbing through fences, now your Mother has to repair them. Finding us too far from hime, your Father was frightened for your safety .... you get the gist. My favourite memory was when my sheep, The General Lee got out of our section and was happily eating Peggy's garden. Brenton and Dad trying to catch him running around the houses ... think Benny Hill Music in the background. They were both so puffed, could hardly speak, and laughing so hard! He will not be forgotten, will be remembered fondly. Rest in peace xo My favourite memory

As we go though childhood, we all have those memories of people who influenced us. Brenton was one of those people for me. He was our neighbour, my dads co-worker & friend and the father of my best friend. He taught me so many life lessons and I clearly remember his warmth and caring nature. As I reflected on Brenton's passing , my first image was his smile. I can recall him greeting me as i bounded through the front door, on my way to find Tanya & Shona and seeing his boots, to look and to see him smiling cheerful at me, having come home from day on the spreader. My sincere condolences to the extended Howe family, but i do find comfort knowing that he is with my dad, David Ansin and they will be reminiscing of their days at Fletcher's transport. The life of one we love is never lost. Its influence goes on through all the lives it ever touched. - Christopher Holloway
