Tributes

I have just been advised of Harry's passing on behalf of my family(and Walter my father) our thoughts are with you. Kindest regards, Raymond.

Harry you were always the highlight of any Club Captains Tour we shared with you and Margaret. North or South island. The methods imployed in getting the old Chev around the coarse were legend. There was nothing you couldn't fix regardless of parts availability, tools and working conditions. You always had us laughing with stories and antics, such as losing your shorts while carrying the dishes back to your camp and the time the main jet fell out of the carb resulting in serious flooding and an eventual loud explosion and cloud of black smoke. I had to make a new tappet cover gasket for you that time because parts of the old one had blown out the sides. Your improvisation was also legendary when it came to making do without parts. I'm not sure if I thanked you enough for drinking a can of beer specially so that I could Maniseal and clamp it around a hole in my exhaust.

You were the first of my uncles that I met, back when you used to drive a purple Zephyr. I have fond memories of your quiet chuckle and dry sense of humour (the best kind!) I remember you tinkering all day long on your cars under the house, and if you weren’t down there, you were sitting in your chair scratching White Puss or Squeaker Puss. I remember you putting your teeth in upside down after a couple of beers at some impromptu party at our place. Oh how I wish I could lay my hands on that photo now! It was from you that I learned the perils of pulling an Uncle’s finger, I only did it once. I giggled as you hopped down the hall farting at night. So long Uncle Harry, thanks for all the fond memories!

"Harry" it has been a pleasure having the opportunity to know you through the years, along with having the chance working alongside you at working jobs through the Fire Service here in Wellsford from 1960-1993 Life Member & Gold Star member. I am sure this brigade wouldn't have grown into the building it is now if it wasn't for your engineering skills and help with any working bee that was happening around the station. I can easily say you were and still are a big part of this brigade and always will be part of the history you have left. So, on behalf of the Brigade past and present rest easy mate. Picture is Harry in our Gold Star photo board on Station.

Harry, it was a pleasure to know you. Loved your humour, your dedication to the old cars and your staunch support of everything you believed in, Family, Car Club, Fire Brigade and no doubt many more. Your smiling face will be missed. Love to Margaret, Linda and the family

Harry it was an honour to be able to give you friendship, care and love in your final few months of your life. It was an even bigger privilege to be able to say farewell to you with your final breath. I will miss you Harry.
