Tributes

My deepest condolences to Leslie and family. I would like to share some key moments Roy had an inspiring affect on me. I remember when I won my first tennis trophy, how proud I was to see my name freshly etched on a cup that had the names Roy wright and Bill James on it as well. Roy always show interest in my sporting endeavours and was amazing at conveying advice that made sense to me, ultimately improving my game. Once Roy was short a squash player in his team. He called me up to see if I would fill in and I jumped at the chance. I had never played squash before, however I was so excited just because he had asked. I was still in primary school, playing in an adult league. Needless to say the first game did not go well. I was so upset that I had let him down. Roy pulled me aside, pointed out all the good things I had done and simply told me too "Try your bloody best Nelly". I won that second game and I will never forget that smile on his face as walked off the court. Roy was the only person to ever take me duck shooting. We went out on the boat on the river, saw nothing for ages. It was getting a bit late and he said that we probably needed to go in. I remember the pause as my face dropped, he looked at me and said "Don't you worry I will get you a duck". Finally the only duck we saw that night he shot for me, I was so happy. The last thing that really stands out for me is when we went to go choose a calf for calf club. We went to see the calves and every one I chose was for some one else. Eventually Roy said " I would go for that one" pointing out a small calf. I loved her immediately, affectionally calling her Daphne. Long story short., Champion of champions! I don't have any pictures with Roy so I added one with Daphne and I. May he be remembered as the inspiration that he was!
