Dear Don, I learned of your passing just recently what a great age you were too. Growing up at the tank factory in Winton and having you as our neighbour seems like yesterday as we were always passing by or we saw you heading away with your boat to go fishing in the weekends. But now you have passed on. Still remember seeing you with the black cat Catters across your shoulders as you walked about the factory. You were a great friend and bestman to Dad - Tom (dec) and Mum - Janet (96) even before you left the Manawatu to head south to make tanks in Southland. Farewell Don From Mum, James, Harry, Elaine and I - (Shirley)
Don’s passing brings the end of a long line of his generation of Yule cousins to a close I believe. I really enjoyed our chats about Don’s life and that of your mum and my grandmother Grace, who were sisters. You certainly had a good innings. Rest in peace. Regards from the Bristows and all.
Don was a great fishing mate of my dad, Vernon Thompson. They shared many wonderful memories of trips with us all as we grew up. After Dad died, Mum kept visiting with Don and my brother, sister and I would often tag along as well and share stories of the latest fish we had just caught. It was with heavy heart we learnt of his passing, and I know Mum, Shirley will miss their conversations. Rest in Peace Don, Raewyn Walker, (on behalf of Shirley Thompson)
Don has gone to be with family and friends in the next journey of life. He was fondly remembered by our family. I recall how It was always good to call at the De Rose home on Kimbolton Road, and hear all the news of family members! My sympathy at this sad time. Jean Thompson-Church
It is with a heavy heart we send our deepest sympathy to family and friends at the passing of Uncle Don. R.I.P.
