Tributes

To our much loved Poppa and Great Poppa! We are very grateful and feel very blessed to have had you in our lives. You taught us many things about life including loads about sailing and you made sure we knew exaclty what a pun was too :-) I personally have loads of fun, fond memories with you at your various abodes growing up and I will cherish these forever. You were always keen on hearing me play some kind of music every time we saw each other and I appreciated that a lot. I remember when Lucy and I visited you in Cambridge and we went out to a lunch bar that had outdoor seating and a piano in the street. After a quick bite, you insisted I play it for everybody, as you both sat there with smiles on your faces listening to the somewhat flat sound of the dated multil-coloured piano. Both Lucy and I were very grateful that you could make it to our wedding and we really enjoyed watching you show up everybody with your moves on the dance floor! We are also grateful that we were able to get up and introduce you to your Great Grandson. It's so cool to see a single image with a 4-generation difference between oldest and youngest. Loads of love and hugs always from us all here in RotoVegas xxx

We were so lucky to have such a wonderful Dad, who taught us so much and bought us happiness and joy as kids, and through into our adulthood. What adventures we had, on the boat and around NZ! I told James about our journeys as kids, to see Nick:, you taking the scenic way was always fun! You had some tough times too, losing two wives, who both loved you dearly. You always kept going, remaining positive and strong for us all. Warrick, James and I loved having you living close by and visiting us on weekends. Thanks Dad, for so many happy memories! We will miss you terribly. Our love always, Talei. Warrick and James xxx

Thanks for being a loving Grandad and Dad. Dad, growing up I valued all the lessons given, while you worked hard to build a great family home in a beautiful location, and when we went on sailing adventures in various boats. You always recognised a moment to teach a new skill. Grandad, we have treasured all our fun times in Kerikeri, Waiheke, Cambridge and Auckland. Whether we were helping with a project, celebrating a special occasion or just passing through we valued time together as a family. So many memories of great times together. Love you.

Dad, I think of you often and know you’re watching over us as we all learn to live without you in our lives. You leave many lessons that pop up! How to dry plastic bags as I do just that. How to wash the car from bottom to top so I don’t miss any spots. I pass the lessons on and like you, I hope they are heard, but sadly from you, I won’t hear another word. Loved always Debs xx

Love you Grandad. I really enjoyed showing you all my newly learned skills, tricks and things you taught me. You were always keen to come for a walk and see how fast I could bike, high I could swing or climb, and how good I was at a game. I loved spending time at your various houses and will miss our long adventures south to visit you. Love you always. Koby

Love you Grandad. Thanks for all the fun times. You were always keen to come and see us have an adventure and most times tried to join in. I will always miss you. Georgia.

Best experience I shared with my Poppa was the time we went kayaking at Karipiro lake. I was quite young at the time and never been on a Kayak before. I couldn’t wrap my head around how he could paddle so well, but he was amazing at teaching so I picked it up after a while. Wish we could of spent more time together, could of learned so much more from him. Rest well Poppa.

Poppa I promise I’ll forever continue the Atholisms! You were making dad jokes well before they became “cool” and that humour runs deep! I’ll cherish the special gifts and memories you shared with me.

You taught me so much and tolerated even more. The times I arrived late from the night before, you were amazing. The most special person that left your mark on so many. You shared your wonderful family and all their antics with us all. We all felt part of them. Thankyou so much. R.I.P. Lovely man.

For well over 70 years, from shared duties at the Windsor Diningroom, Stratford I have known Athol, first as cousin, later as a good friend, generous, social and with an open house. So sorry your time has come Athol. RIP. Alan
