Martin was one of natures "larger than life characters". He had an ebullient personality and was a supremely hearty and genial man. His manners were impecable except perhaps when he was "taking the mickey", but always with great humour and never any malice. He was kind, generous and considerate of others. He quite simply a truly lovely man. He filled any room he was in and company he was with , with good humour and laughter. He was fun to be with. Martin left "the Andrew" early. It was his wish to go into stockbroking, a second career in which he was very successful. I have no doubt that had he remained in the RN he would have reached flag rank and maybe gone all the way to the top. He had all the atributes. May he rest in peace, he will not be forgotten.
