Thank you, Leith, for your quiet strength, gentle humour and support that you and Enid provided. Without this I would not have the successful career and independence that I have enjoyed for the past 40 years, or indeed the lovely family that I have. Leith played a major role in my early years, helping myself and 3 of my siblings to develop a life outside the exclusive brethren. He found us a foster home with a wonderful family, the wicked Williamsons, where we learnt about life outside the Peebs, and the things that many others take for granted. I know Leith supported many young people in his role as Senior Sergeant and have no doubt his gentle strength helped many others in the way that it helped us. We often visited Leith when we returned to Hawera, and his and Enid’s hospitality, warmth and interest in our children and lives will remain with us.
Farewell Leith You were a gentleman You worked with my wife at the Police bowling Tournament at Hawera Park Bowling Club I new you well and had great talks Hawera is a better place for work in the Hawera Police and your community Support. Rest in Peace.
We all have many fond memories of grandad. Benny would like to share that he still remembers Grandad’s great big hugs when he got to meet him and Emily still remembers first meeting him during our NZ trip in 2016. We are grateful that our children got to have that time with him.
A true gentleman now Heavens gain. I met Leith when I did Electoral work in the 1990's. He was a person I admired for his patience, knowledge and kindness and he always had a smile and shared a chat when ever we crossed paths. Condolences to the family who will no doubt carry on your legacy. RIP Leith.
A wonderful man to work for and a friend to everyone. Leith and Enid took Marilyn & I under their wing when we moved to Hawera in the mid 70's and they were involved in many of our family happenings. They both always took a great interest in the children. I hold great memories of Leiths mentoring in policing. Our sincerest condolences to all of the family. Unfortunately Nettie and I are unable to attend the service as we are presently out of the Country but we will be with you all in spirit. Rest in Peace Leith for a life well lived in service.
An absolute gentleman. Rest in peace Mr Miles.
